Next Generation Arrived at Oakcliff
|
Oakcliff hosted seven teams of youth (ages 15-22) over last weekend. Once again, Dave Perry was on fire at the Youth Match Racing
Clinegatta. The teams spent 6 hours a day on the
water plus an average of two hours of debrief with video.
Teams came from as far as New Orleans and Annapolis to benefit from
Dave's expertise as well as the service of volunteer umpires and race
committee who also braved the 90 degree heat. My favorite quote from
one of the debrief: "I was having issues in my mind" Dave definitely
filled their heads with a lot of information.
Taylor Trophy Also on the water
this weekend, Oakcliff Supporters and team members competed for the
Taylor Trophy which is the Long Island YRA Match Racing Championship
and Oakcliff Supporter David Storrs came out victorious. In second was one of the original
Oakcliff team members Leo Vasiliev and at young team from the USMMA came in third. Congratulations everyone!
Next
week the Grade 3 International Oakcliff Invitational will finish off
the month with world class teams on the water in our Swedish Match 40s.
Connecting the dots at Oakcliff from young to not so young ... we have momentum!.

Classics and Shields on Normal Schedule
|
While we are not formally organizing the Tuesday Match Race drills so the boats are ready for Wednesday morning we still will have the Shields available for you and your teams on Wednesday and Sunday. Also this Saturday there is Dooley Roosevelt regatta jointly hosted by Sagamore and Seawanhaka where the Shields are welcome.
And, of course we will be sailing the classics on Thursday. I don't want to jinx it but so far the Thursday evenings have provieded simply spectacular sailing. Each night we are all reluctant to go back to the moorings and the inevitably the comment is made "too bad we can't just keep sailing around Center Island".

IRC and Melges Update
|
Oakcliff's Ker 11.5/Peacemaker won class honors in the Port Huron Mackinac Race and at press time is leading their class in the Chicago Mackinac Race. This has been a great opportunity to spread the Oakcliff message to the Great Lakes, and for Andrew and Colin to gain valuable experience.
There is one more regatta in the Great Lakes and then she will be back joining the IRC fleet on Long Island Sound. We are filling in the schedule but plan to race/train on the weekends as well as possibly to compete in the Vineyard Race. Shortly there will be a sign up for those wanting to apply to be a part of the crew on the Oakcliff Calendar. http://www.oakcliffsailing.org
The Melges will also be more active in the coming months in the build up for the North American's which will be in Rochester NY. Acorns Kevin Dooley and Mike "Koko" Komar are spearheading this effort.
