TUESDAY MATCH RACE DRILLS:
As normal, we will have drills on Tuesday. We meet at 5:30 at Oakcliff, are on the water by about 6 and back for a quick debrief around sunset.  Sign up here

WEDNESDAY SHIELDS FLEET RACING:
We are finally getting some traction with people getting out on the water on Wednesdays.  Colin will have all 6 boats ready to go with the bottoms cleaned and the correct sails, winch handles etc. on board.  Stop by Oakcliff at 5:30 to meet up with Ladi, grab a VHF, and a life jacket if you need one and then head out to the race course.  After racing, Sagamore's bar is open and they have food available from V's Hot and Sweet Catering.  Sign up for Wednesday night here.

THURSDAY CLASSIC RACING - once around:
Last week was a spectacular night for sailing.  Quite literal the sails were billowing, the rails were buried and the spray was flying. We sailed one lap around the course in 18 knots of wind which also cooled the 88 degree temperatures.  This week we will have some of the boats from across the sound joining us and Ronnie and Vlad will have Dolphin and Nautilus ready to sail.   This particular Thursday you are also invited to celebrate the Grand Opening Party of Jack Halyards (nee Fiddlehead's) after racing.  Sign up for Thursday Classics Here

SUNDAY SHIELDS RACING:
Sunday's Shields Fleet Racing is handled a little bit differently, we ask that you reserve your boat by noon on Friday so we can have the boat ready for you to go and let you know which one you will be sailing.  On Sunday you simply go to OBMC and take the launch to your boat.  That does mean that you will need to bring your own hand-held VHF with you.Sign Up Your Team Here.    Also the sailing instructions can be downloaded here.
Saturday Match Racing

This Saturday we will have racing on the Swedish Match 40s.  Ideally you arrive with your team in place but we also will work to compile teams with individuals who do not have a team.  Supporter Doug Shannon has agreed to help with filing the Saturday Regattas with ISAF so skippers will receive points towards their Match Racing Rankings.  Please have your team members register as well and indicate who you plan to sail with.

Match Racing for Youth and Rockstars
Dave PerryLooking forward we have three pretty major events this month and Dave Perry is behind all of them.

We will have a Youth Match Racing Clinic July 9-11.  It will be led by Dave  and is open to 16-22 year olds.

Building on that a Youth Clinegatta will be held two weekends later, July 23-25.

Finally we will be hosting the Oakcliff Invitational.  All-star teams from New Zealand, Holland, The USVI and the US will be going head to head from July 28 to August 1st.  The youth that have participated in the previous regattas will be invited to ride along as observers on the Match 40s during the competition.  More information

Bottom line, spread the word to area youth and plan on participating in some or all of these events as participants, umpires, race committee or even spectators as it will be pretty exciting racing.
I am so happy that we have such a full month of racing and training on tap.  I encourage you to jump in with both feet and some out to Oakcliff but right now I'm off to do that aforementioned wind dance.

See you soon,

Team Oakcliff M24
Congratulations to Acorns
Kevin Dooley and Mike Komar, Supporter David Qualio and our own unique Vlad.  They represented Team Oakcliff at the Melges 24 Nationals and finished a very respectable 6th place.

They sailed consistantly and relaxed and it paid. On the 1st race of Saturday the start was less than ideal and they crossed the line about 8 boat lengths behind the fleet.  They fought back to 8th at the top mark, an incredible 4th at the bottom and then finished 2nd. One more day of racing would have had them moving up in the rankings but the fog came in and killed the wind.  But they played it by the book, used their patience and had a great regatta.
