Melges 24s and Last Classic Race
 Your input required
June 8, 2010
Greetings!

Your input is required in this week's email, primarily with the Melges 24s.   We will be using the Melges this weekend for practice on Saturday and Sunday in preparation for the Friends of the Bay Race next Saturday but we need to know how many people will be involved.

Just as time sensitive, tonight is the Webb Institute Night.

Calling all Melges 24 Sailors!
Melges 24We are ready to launch up to 6 Melges 24s for the next two weekends ... as long as we have at least 20 sailors signed up BEFORE 9am this Thursday.

The plan is to begin at 10am on Saturday the 12th for a tune up, some speed testing as well as some crew work drills.  On Sunday the 13th we will set up a race course and run a handful of races.    This is in preparation for the Friends of the Bay Race which is a fund raising regatta being held Saturday June 19th.

What do you need to do?  We need to have anyone who is keen to put together a team for Melges to have all of your team Sign Up Here BEFORE 9am this Thursday.  This way we will be able to assess the potential teams and determine how many boats to put in the water.   We need a minimum of 20 people signed up before we put the boats in the water.

Also if you know of anyone who is keen to race the North American's being held in Newport RI at the end of the month, we have packages available.
Final Classic Spring Race
Dolphin

The final race of the Spring Series for Classics will take place this Saturday.  If you have not had a chance to sail on these beautiful boats it is time to reserve your spot.

The classics will continue to sail on Thursday nights and we will be doing a cruise out to Greenport in the next month or so.  Watch these newsletters for more information.
Community Activities
Oakcliff has been in the community quite a bit lately.  We had a booth at the Bay Days hosted by the Waterfront Center.  Yesterday, I also participated in a career day at Oyster Bay High School.  We are also active with the Mainstreet Association, Chamber of Commerce and Friends of the Bay Organization.
Club
It is great to be welcomed into the Oyster Bay Community and I expect we will continue to have more community involvement here and in neighboring communities.  This includes that other island, Manhattan.  As they say, watch this space for future announcements of future, fun activities.

As the word spreads we are getting more and more inquiries and I am realizing how much we have to offer.  Really there is something for everyone.

Match racing for the people who want to up their game quickly.  Classics for those wanting a more gentle entree to the sport and then there are the Shields. It is a race but at a slightly less hectic pace than the match racing so it is a great way to form your own group with a friend or two and get out for the Wednesday Night Races.

As always we have a coaching component.  Check out the calendar to pick the night that works best for you.

And as always, I hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,

Dawn Riley
