Roosevelt Cup is Here!

May 7, 2010
Greetings!

The blistering pace of sailing continues at the Oakcliff Sailing Center.  Last weekend saw more great racing with four of our IRC boats on the starting line at the second weekend of the American Spring Regatta.   I'd also like to take a moment to say congratulations to: Mike, Kyra and David Quaglio, James Ebenau, Rand Milton, Jual Villarreal, Fortunato Gordon, Ron Saccardo, Sean Flaherty, Adam Speckenback, Robert Wallace and Josh Burack for being on the winning boat and everyone at Oakcliff for being part of the winning team.

Dave Perry's Advanced Match Racing Clinegatta will culminate with a day of racing tomorrow, Saturday.  If you are in the area come out and help on race committee, driving an umpire boat or just watching from shore.

The first classic has arrived and next weekend we will shake these boats down by sailing in the Roosevelt Cup.  They will join the IRC fleet and from what I understand the Roosevelt Cup is a fun medium distance race that has a touch of elegance to it and there will be a social wrap up at the Seawanhaka Yacht Club.   See below for more information on how to get involved.

Roosevelt Cup Next Saturday
ClassicsThe Roosevelt Cup is a nice medium distance race hosted by the beautiful Seawanhaka Yacht Club and begins and ends on the waters of Oyster Bay.

We will field our IRC and Classics and have the option to have some of the Melges 24s on the race course as well.  Invite your friends, hope for the spectacular weather to continue and Sign Up for the Roosevelt Cup  here.

This is a medium distance pursuit start race.  That means that the slowest boats start first and the starts are staggered so theoretically, if every boat was sailed perfectly, they would all arrive at the finish line at the same time.  Is anyone up to the challenge of sailing perfectly?

You can read the Roosevelt Cup NOR here.

Round Block Island
Ker 50The Ker 50 will be sailing in the Round Block Island Race and the Roosevelt Cup will be used as the warm up for this race.  Anyone who is signed up for the Round Block Island Race should also go to the IRC Roosevelt Cup Sign Up .  If there is anyone who is interested in sailing we will be finalizing the crew next Tuesday.

Considering that this is an offshore race we will be looking at fielding a very strong team with offshore experience, seamanship skills as well as racing skills.  If you can bring these skills to the team please consider signing up at: Round Block Island Race
