Oakcliff Sailing Center
AYC & More
April 28 2010
Greetings!
We continue to rush into spring here at Oakcliff.  AYC Spring Regatta saw 4 of our boats hit the race course last weekend.   The conditions couldn't have been more different with sun and light wind on Saturday and wild and woolly sailing on Sunday.  This weekend it looks to be much more civilized temperature and we are looking forward to another successful weekend.

Virtually as soon as the IRC boats are put back on their moorings we will be jumping into the Advanced Match Race Clinic and the following week the classics will start arriving.

It is incredible to me how quickly spring has sprung here in Oyster Bay and the energy surrounding Oakcliff is awesome.

I hope you read through this newsletter as there are many many opportunities to participate.

Two Spots Left This Weekend
There will be a separate email to those who have already signed up for the this weekend's racing at American Yacht Club but we do have two spots open so if anyone is interested please send a message to: race@oakcliffsailing.org

The boats we are racing are the Ker 11.3, the Ker 11.5 and the Ker 50 as well as the Farr 40.  With all of these boats and 43 sailors representing the Oakcliff Sailing Team, we are a dominant force in Division One.

Thank you to everyone who sailed in the sun and in the rain who learned new positions helped with everything from packing spinnakers to cleaning up around the base.  It was so nice to see everyone working together and making new friends.
Swedish Match Boats are Back & So is Dave!
The Match 40s are in the water and will be pressed into service next week.  Dave Perry is back to run an intensive Advanced Match Racing Clinic.  This session is designed for experienced match racers from the area and around the country.  We do have some of  crew spots open.

Sailors will be put through their paces from Wednesday May 5th through Saturday May 8th.  Sailors like Sally Barkow from Wisconsin and Colin Rathburn from the British Virgin Islands are coming to Oyster Bay to join our local talent.   We have set this clinic up so you can come solo as a crew and we will assign you to a team.   If you are interested go to:  Advanced MR Clinic to sign up.

It's going to be a good week!

Race Committee and Umpires are key for all of our sailing.  We plan to hold trainings in these areas too but I'm not sure we will be able to match PRO Sue Miller's skill.

At the ABC qualifiers, as we were waiting for wind, I brought my iPhone over so Sue could search weather stations.  About 3 minutes into surfing she suddenly stiffened, sniffed and tossed my iPhone back to me saying.. "It's here! The wind is coming I can feel it."  The water was like glass but sure enough within 5 minutes we had 10 knots of wind.  Sue doesn't need no stinkin' iPhone :-)!
