USICD Exectutive Director to appear on State Department's 'Conversations with America'

On Thursday, February 17, 2011, David Morrissey will join Judith Heumann, Special Advisor for International Disability Rights at the U.S. Department of State, for a conversaton on International Disability Rights.  The discussion will be moderated by Cheryl Benton, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of Public Affairs and streamed live on DipNote, the Department of State's official blog, at 3:00 p.m. ET.

USICD Launches Global Disability Rights Library Newsletter

On Sunday February 6, 2011, the USICD GDRL team launched the first edition of the Global Disability Rights Library Newsletter.  This first edition included:

  • Details about GDRL Deployment benefits and responsibilities
  • Tips for strengthening applications to receive the GDRL
  • Highlighted disability rights content already in the library
  • Notes on priority areas where the GDRL still needs more content, including material in South Asian and African languages, information on Independent Living, and Resources for indigenous people with disabilities.

We will periodically send out new issues of the GDRL Newsletter to provide updates on the progress of building the GDRL, more highlighted content from the library, and further tips and insights from the site application process.

USICD Now accepting Applications for Government Relations Coordinator

The United States International Council on Disabilities (USICD) is looking for a Government Relations Coordinator lead the daily outreach and advocacy campaign in support of U.S. ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
 

Responsibilities include: Outreach on Capitol Hill and meeting coordination, external partner relations with both domestic and international colleagues, advisory committee support, and writing issue briefs.

USICD Staff Member Appointed to U.S. State Department's Foreign Service

USICD's Manager of Government Relations, Mariyam Cementwala, has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Department of State's Foreign Service in its March class.  She will join the ranks of this country's diplomatic corps representing the United States in its embassies and consular posts across the globe.  The USICD community wishes Mariyam safe travels and the best of luck in serving our country!
