USICD Offers Disability Rights Educational Teleconference

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is an important tool for promoting the human rights of people with disabilities.  USICD has been hosting a continuing series of national teleconferences on the CRPD to build awareness and support for the CRPD.  The next teleconference will be aimed at people who may be new to the content of the treaty and would like to learn more.  If you want to know what a treaty is, what the CRPD is about, and how it can help protect the human rights of people with disabilities, this session is for you!  Join us on April 16 at 2 p.m. Eastern time.  Click on the link on the right under Upcoming Events for more information.

A Message from the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

During April, USICD will offer two special events.  First, we are providing an "Introduction to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)."  This April 16th national teleconference is for people new to the CRPD.

Participants will learn more about what a treaty is, what the CRPD is about, and how it protects the human rights of people with disabilities. For colleagues actively advocating for US ratification, please watch for another "Advocates Teleconference" later in May.

On April 26, I invite you and all interested community members to our Annual Meeting.  This will be a half-day event in Washington, DC, and we will also offer teleconference access to those outside Washington.  The afternoon will include special guest speakers,  resource sharing, and networking   This is a wonderful way to meet fellow USICD members and other advocates for the global disability rights movement.

If you are an existing USICD member, you have recently received your 2010 membership renewal notice.  I hope we can count on your continued  participation in our growing community.  To our colleagues who are not yet members, I encourage you to consider joining.   There is a lot going on in the USICD community--won't you join us?

Sincerely,
David Morrissey
