Teens in the Driver's Seat

Texting while walking, dangerous combo

Texting and driving has been a hot topic in the news lately because many states are banning the habit. What you probably haven't heard about is the danger of texting and walking, but it too can be hazardous to your health.

Alexa Longueira, a fifteen-year-old from Staten Island, New York, was texting while walking and fell into a manhole that was uncovered. With only minor injuries she was quickly released from the hospital.

So if texting while walking can be dangerous, the question has to be asked: why haven't all 50 states banned texting while driving?

In Texas talking or texting while driving is illegal for teens who have been driving for six months or less.

It is now also illegal for anyone to have a phone to their ear or use without a hands free device in a school zone.
