and share your love of French CINEMA

Over the past seven years, many of you have told us how FOCUS ON FRENCH CINEMA is "truly excellent, and a lot of fun!". Today, we want to offer you the possibility of becoming a member of "Les Amis du Festival".  As an "Ami" you will support the 8th annual Focus on French Cinema, a not-for-profit event made possible by the generosity of donors. We have prepared different Membership packages for you to choose from:  les Classiques, les Cultes, les Premieres, les Art et Essai

They all guarantee privileged access to the festival and entitle you to bring friends along to share your love of French-language movies, which is what a true friend does! Most importantly, by becoming a member, you will help us continue to make the festival "Spectacular!" and "bring together all sorts of members of our community." Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

"The Artist": an Oscar Favorite?

The pundits say so

Here at FOCUS ON FRENCH CINEMA, we have talked about this movie since our very first newsletter. We are not the only ones, and some even say it could win big at the next Academy Awards, on February 26th, 2012. That is the case with L.A. Times critic Kenneth Turan, who appeared on a CBS News Sunday Morning broadcast dedicated to The Artist. Harvey Weinstein, whose company distributes the movie, will also pitch it very hard to the voters. Even with all these talks, it would still be a major surprise. There is little chance that a silent, black & white movie will win Best Picture in 2012. In fact, no silent movie has won it since the very first Academy Award ceremony (Wings, in 1929). Not to mention that it is a French movie, albeit with an international cast including recognizable American actors and a story that focuses on Hollywood, which makes it even more difficult. A story to follow on the red carpet for sure!
