Greetings!
All engine manufacturers recommend that an engine oil analysis be done at each oil change. Oil analysis is not required, but it is a good practice as noted in the bullet points below. Oil analysis should not be done intermittently, as it does not allow for a pattern of engine issue averages to show up accurately.
Three good reasons for sampling:
- Extend equipment life
- Identify minor problems before they become major failures, such as contamination caused by an improperly sealed air intake. Large amounts of foreign material ingested through the air intake can cause major damage to an engine.
- Maximize asset reliability
By taking a sample at each oil change, you can monitor the condition of the engine for wear metal and contaminants. If you start to notice trends that may cause damage to the engine, it can be corrected early. This in turn may prevent a major breakdown that could be very costly. There are a lot of different analysis companies to choose from. It would be best to check with your vendor who supplies your oil to see which company they use or recommend.
