JustLoseItwithBerta Volume 1 Issue 17 04-29-2010

Dear ,
Hello
again, and thanks for continuing to stop by.
The days are getting warmer and many of you are starting to panic about
shedding the winter clothes you've been hiding beneath. You're faced with the
daunting task of making your summer Wonder Suit work the way your winter
sweat suit did, and you know it's just not happening! A few of you are already in a full-blown
panic over the approach of this annual nightmare. Do you know what the funny
thing is? Not funny, but... yes, funny. You are so filled with dread and shame
that you immediately regressed and chose to "comfort" yourselves with food. If
it makes you feel any better, you are not the only one shuddering at the
thought of another season of the skin! You feel guilty that a year has
passed, and you still have not been able to get it together. Please believe me
when I say, I understand! Your
feelings are completely normal! I see this every spring when my brand new, or fairly new, clients go through this experience. Again, I feel so frustrated, fearing that
those of you in pain will not hear my words. I so very much want to give you
strength, the strength to put down whatever is tempting you, to stand up to
whatever is scaring you so you can jump-start your path to the new you, right
this very minute. Today
I am going to try to do just that. You see, even if you're not in great shape
this week, in four weeks (May 27th),
you can be down four to eight pounds;
in eight weeks (June 24th),
you can be down eight to 16 pounds,
in 12 weeks (July 22), you can be down 12-24
pounds. No matter which end of the
curve you wind up on, you have the potential to completely uplift yourself this
very summer! Instead of spending three months watching seasonal sadness and
depression add to your waistline, you can spend them reveling in hope and
elation. You might not be ready to debut the bikini at the end of July, but at
the very least, this can be your season of someskin! Come on! You have to start somewhere, and some is better than none,
right? Of course I'm right. And don't
forget the sunscreen!! Because
I want to make sure you get off to a great start, I decided to use this Tea Time segment to outline exactly how you will do it. I tell you what you should
listen to first and what you should read next to give your jump start the
structure necessary to make it a little bit easier and more concise. My
blogs were written with the express purpose of helping you understand the
emotional reasons for your previous difficulties with weight loss. Please believe that I absolutely KNOW, beyond
a shadow of a doubt, that the emotional issues I write about are the crux of
your inability to move forward. Lean on
me, and I will show you a totally pragmatic method of eating delicious foods
that are prepared simply. Familiarize yourself with the easy component of my
weight loss program, and then I will walk you through many thought-provoking
scenarios that illustrate why the easy part sometimes seems so difficult. Ah,
this brings me to today's blog. Today I
have chosen to speak about those to whom we assign responsibility for our
weight. I know that we all take
responsibility on the outside, but deep down inside, many people are addicted
to the blame game. Please click here www.justloseit.com/blog to find out
why I say 'tis better to own than to
give. Yup.
Tea Time with Berta:
Now
that I have been writing for almost 4 months, there is a fairly large body of
information out there, and my newer readers are wondering how to navigate
through it all. They are especially interested in finding out where in the
world to begin! Therefore, I thought that I would explain the steps that will
get you started and on your way, should you decide to journey forward with the
rest of us. Before I begin, I would like
to reiterate that my web site will soon be up and running. At that point,
everything will be much easier to follow. Until then, let me break it down. First:When you sign up (or if you have been reading for a while and are still not
quite sure where to begin), listen to my audio class. It's a one-hour class where I speak about how
it feels to lose weight. It's the
perfect place to start. I have the audio link posted on a page that talks about a class I gave (and will give again) on the subject.
Go to www.justloseit.com/tele-class and take your first step. Second: Go to www.justloseit.com/blogand scroll down to the March 4th Blog:
What to Eat - The Beginning. Third: Go to the blog, once again, at www.JustLoseIt.com/blog. On the sidebar to the right, click on the "E-zine
Archives." Once there, go to the
1/15/2010 e-zine and read the Tea Timearticle, Don't Over Think It. Fourth: You are now ready to start reading all the
blogs to understand what might be stopping you from achieving your weight loss
goal. I suggest beginning with Longevity and Consistency, and then begin to work your way through the
others. Questions? Well, please just write in, and I will be
happy to cover them for you. In addition, you may check out my Facebook page at
Just Lose It with Berta . Become a fan and add questions or comments to the dialogue
there. I
hope this helps clarify the use of the E-zine and Blog pages. Please
be patient. The web site will soon be coming to a computer near you! I Promise!
Did you know...
that
65.2% of the U.S.
population is overweight or obese? I
think that at one time in our history this statistic might have been shocking, but I
doubt that today anyone will be the least bit surprised-just take a look
around. The sad thing about this dire
statistic that depicts the dangerous and unsightly effects of overeating is that many people point to it as the cause of their obesity. They look around and see that 65.2% of their
family members are obese and draw the conclusion that they, too, are bound to
follow suit. They then make the leap to
cite genetics as the culprit because that must be the reason most of the people
in their families are overweight. Is
there medical evidence that one can be genetically disposed to overweight and
obesity? Well, it's a nice, neat little excuse, but the downside is that it
doesn't leave you with many options to correct the problem, does it?
There is another problem with the idea of a "fat gene." If obesity is a genetic
problem, where did this special gene come from? And where was it 20 or 40
years ago? I
have never subscribed to the "fat" gene theory, but if you are a believer, then I think you
will be happy to learn that the gene doesn't exist. Let me explain the biological process you are
confusing with genetics. Your fat cells
are formed in the developing fetus in the 3rd trimester of
pregnancy. So, although it is not
genetics, you could actually be fatter than another person because of what your
mother ate, unbeknownst to her, during the last trimester of your
development. The next and last term of
fat formation and distribution coincides with
puberty and the secretion of male and female hormones. This means that there are only two times in
your life when you can form fat cells. That's it. You cannot generate any more. What you have after puberty are
all the fat cells you will have for the rest of your life. You can fill them up or empty them out, but they are there
to stay, unless
you undergo liposuction and have them removed from surgically. This
news, unfortunately, won't do you any good as adults; however, you might want
to rethink how important it is to eat well while pregnant, and to vigilantly
monitor what your children eat, monitoring their fat consumption through
puberty. Consequently, epidemic obesity
is not a problem of genetics. It is a
two-fold problem that arose first from feeding children fatty foods that
generated the formation of fat cells in their bodies, and second from teaching
children to eat in a fatty way. Let's be
examples to them and break the chain of overweight and obesity. Let's give our children a hand up by making
sure they do not go through life with more fat cells than they need or
want. Just
look at what we have learned today: you cannot use other people or your genetic
makeup to excuse your appearance! The only person you can look to is The
person in total control of every
morsel that goes into your mouth: Yourself!
