It is also Gosford Art Prize Time again!  517 entries were received, those selected by the judges are displayed at the Edogawa Japanese Gardens in East Gosford.  The flow over exhibition is at the Imperial Shopping Centre in Gosford.

For those with a stressful lifestyle, finding time for self-nurturing or respite is difficult. I have found over the years that working on jigsaw puzzles and being able to steadily create something of such beauty, piece by piece, has taught me valuable life lessons. It is my belief that these works of art not only keep us in touch with the world of myth, fantasy and imagination, but they also remind us of the magical, enlightened, harmonious world we often dream about." A Little boy called Billy is 6 years old, he loves his crystal more than anything else in the world.  He can't quite remember where it came from but knows that when it is with him, everything in his life flows, he feels well and is surrounded by light and love.



It came time though for Billy to go out in the world, meet other people, go to school.  How is he going to keep his crystal safe?  He will carry it in his heart!  His mother stitched in a little pocket for him in his clothes so that he could carry it close to his heart.  Billy was a boy that in his innocence, didn't realise hw people were attracted to his light, it is like light eminated from him.  The problem with this was that, the light, when it touched others, shined on the little grubby parts of them that they did not like or did not want to see.

This made some of the other little boys angry and they tousled Billy up inthe playground and pushed him over.  Billy didn't understand this behaviour.  People were not like that where he came from.  Worse, the wellness and flow he usually experienced, started to dissappear.  This was a new experience for him and he started to feel lost and unhappy.  He reached for his crystal, looking for reassurance...it was gone!  It must have fallen out when he fell.  Ouch his knees hurt.  He doesn't remember ever experiencing pain either!  He looked down and they were bleeding.  He then looked around him and everything seemed much darker than before.  He begn to worry. What was happening?  He looked for hours for his crystal- but he could not find it.  He felt a little blinded in the dark and eventually, in tears had to leave and go home without it.

Years went by living in this state that felt like darkness to him.  Worse, in this darkness, he began to forget the light and his crystal. He looked for comfort and support elsewhere, often in places that gave temporay happiness but just made him feel worse later. The more he sought happiness elsewhere, the darker it seemed it to get and the worse experiences he had in his day to day life, going to school and meeting friends.

One day he saw a bird that had been hit by a car and felt very sad.  He cried and and asked for help.  Whytdo bad things have to happen? Nobody seemed to answer him, but he began to notice white feathers everywhere.  Then he started to notice that they seemed to form a trail.  He followed them to a statue of Archangel Michael who was holding a lantern.  The statue had enscripted on it- "Follow me to the light." 

With those words, he remembered what it was like to experience the light and had a vague recollecton of his personal crystal.  He felt wonderful, and just remembering it infused him with a taste of the light. But this was short lived, as with this infusion of light, came both positive and negative responses from people.  Some little girls younger than him, (he was now eigt years old) were in awe of him and didn't know why, they wanted to talk to him and play with him.  Some birds flying nearby landed on his shoulders and he didn't even have any bread for them.  Some older boys walking past were jealous and called him a sissy.  With that ,he felt sad and the ligtht faded once more.  The birds flew away.  The girls went back to playing in their little group.

A little old man who was standing by the fountain watching the events unfold, approached Billy and explained to him how important acceptance is. He was wearing shabby clothes and looked very thin and hungry but seemed very wise.  He explained that when we accept ourselves as we are regardless of whether we are a sissy in other people's eyes, we experience the world in a different way.  And living this way allows us to accept others as they are.  It also allows us to accept positive and negative events as something we can't change but that will pass as everything does.  Our choice to respond to event or to react to them.  Reacting can set off a chain of positive or negative events.  Responding from acceptance, means we can shape outcomes by taking into consideration the "reason" the event occured.  Billy thought about this.  He thought he understood and he felt a lot better.  As the man turned and left, he gave him a white feather and Billy saw a sparkle in his eye as winked at him.

Later as a teenager, Billy fell in love with a girl who reminded him of the light.  He could see such brightness when he looked into ther eyes but she was so dark on the outside.  She wore dark clothes and seemed to be depressed all the time. Billy didn't mind, he saw her inner beauty.  Sometimes she was mean to him though and one day she said some nasty words and broke up with him.  She told him he was too nice! 

He started to think being nice is not a good thing and gets you nowhere.  He went into a dark depression himself.  He thought about taking the drugs that she took, she said they helped her to feel better.  He thought he would try some alcohol, so walking through the park on his way to store to see if he could buy some, he literally bumped into a beautiful girl, just 2 years older than him.  She was 18 years old.  They both toppled over and started laughing.  She had dropped a bag full of crystals and they had gone tumbling all over the grass.  He was amazed at the beautiful collection of crystals.  All diferent colours and sizes.  She stared telling him about how they helped her and her eyes lit up when she talked about it.  Even better, as he helped her collect them, he could feel that each one had a different feeeling about it and made him feel different tingling senstions in his hands, or in his heart.  Some of them gave him a familiar feeling, and things around him felt lighter.  She spoke to him about unconditional love and told him that his girlfriend wasn't abe to love herself and that is why she could not love him.  He ashamedly admitted that he was going to go and buy some alcohol, so he was just hte same as her.  She told him that he had to accept the situationas it was and he had 2 choices,  he could react or respond, but that she could see the light in his eyes and his inner beauty no matter what he chose.  How could she see something in him that he could not?  She had only just met him.  All her crystals were in her bag now, so they said goodbye.

He pondered what she said and started to look inside himself.  Am I really beautiful, even if I am too nice and a sissy?  He really looked and deep inside his heart he began to feel a glow.  Just then he noticed a crystal on the floor that she had dropped.  He picked it up and ran after her, but she was gone.  He held the crystal in his hand.  It was broken in two.  This crystal was familiar somehow...no ...could it be?....it's not possible! 

He started to remember that he had a crystal once.  He loved that crystal.  He dropped it from the pocket next to his heart 8 years ago, it looked just like this.  His life had been so dark since he lost his personal crystal.  Here it was....so may years later...this was the  exact spot he dropped it all those years ago.  How could it have been here all this time?  It wasn't one of her crystals afterall, this crazy co-incidence just made him look for it.  How could nobody else have picked this up in all these years?  Just then a crazy old drunk lady walked past him, muttering some garbled words in her craziness.  It sounded like she said "nodody can see it but you.  It is your soul, your spirit.  Dont let go of it again."

She can't have said that could she?  Just then a white feather drifted down from a bird flying above and he caught it in his other hand.  I am truly blessed he thought and the sun came out, everything seemed light again.
