Greetings!
Only you can prevent mid-winter boredom!
As proud past recipients of the City of Prescott Cultural/Performing Arts Grant Awards, the Tsunami on the Square Board of Directors and I
wanted to personally
invite Mayor Marlin Kuykendall, City Manager Steve Norwood, City Clerk Liz Burke, City Counsel Members Lora Lopas, Steve Blair, Tammy Linn, Jim Lamerson, Mary Ann Suttles and John Hanna to our little night on the town.
Several years ago, Arizona Commission on the Arts Executive Director Bob Booker described the attitude of Prescott citizens towards their arts as "Lead, follow or get the heck out of the way." Faced with our current economic climate and, in the strong spirit of public art which characterized our local response to the Depression, Tsunami on the Square is throwing a working class fundraiser filled with some of the stuff that makes Prescott great.
Sure,
I could go on about the eye-popping array of desserts - from the
swankiest of restaurants to the most revered family recipes. I could
remind you that the revised line-up for the evening includes Big Daddy D & the Dynamites, (below) named best blues band of 2007 by the Arizona Blues Society, as well as jazz singer Rachel Scharfenberg and a host of special guests. And then there are
the intriguing door prizes, the BYOB (wink, wink)
and the special coffee created by Prescott Coffee Roasters.
But
most of all, there's the kids. A generation of Prescott kids who've
grown up on Tsunami on the Square every June on Courthouse Square. A
generation of Circus Camp graduates: strong, confident kids on stilts -
more kids on stilts or juggling or making masks than any other town our
size in Arizona. Take that, Casa Grande!
Please join us this Saturday to keep this impossible wave alive in the heart of our community.
And,
if you pre-pay your $12 admission by clicking the button below, I will
personally see you get one of the nicest tables the event offers. Plus we also have a special reduced price kid's ticket.
Even
if you don't choose to pre-pay, register to let us know you're coming.
Somebody's got to have a great Saturday night and it might as well be
you!
