| Claim Your Unused Benefits |
|
One of the biggest perks of employment is your benefit package, and those unused benefits are like money sitting in your bank account. Dental insurance is not cumulative; so if you don't use it, you lose it. That means that, after the first of the year, you start over again with an out-of-pocket deductible and annual maximum. Wouldn't it be smart to use the money before you lose access to it? |

Dental insurance can help people pay for dental treatment, but it does have limitations. Most insurance plans have a deductible of $50 to $100, pay only a specified percentage for each type of treatment, and have a yearly maximum amount of funds available for dental care. (It is interesting, and disappointing, to note that when dental insurance companies became common in the early 1970's, the yearly maximum for many was the same $1000 it is today... even though the cost of delivering dental care has nearly tripled since then.)
Dental benefits are one of the most important premiums paid for with payroll deductions. With PPO insurance plans, insurance companies negotiate the fees paid to our office in exchange for our placement on a list of "preferred" providers. Your employer gives the list to you, effectively playing matchmaker between your family and practices that participate with the dental plan. Most PPO plans cover preventive care, cleanings, check-ups, protective dental sealants, x-rays, and fluoride treatment at 80% to 100%. Basic care, including root canal therapy, extractions, and fillings are usually covered at 80%. Major restorations including crowns, permanent bridgework, and full and partial dentures are usually covered at 50%, as is most periodontal (gum) care. Check on the specifics of your plan today. |
This time of year always signals a big rush for patients to maximize their dental benefits, so don't hesitate to contact us if you have an outstanding treatment plan. We'll happily research the benefits you have remaining for 2009. And, even if we only accomplish a part of your larger treatment plan, accessing the money you have already paid for in payroll deductions is your right... and a wise decision. | |

The year is flying by! Halloween has past, and soon we'll be decking the halls. But don't let the New Year slip up on you... Schedule your appointment soon to avoid the wait times of December, and take advantage of those unused benefits before the money disappears on January 1st.
Sincerely,
Your friends at Wilson Dental Care |
