SPEAKER'S TIP #2
Choose to Speak Brilliantly!
When you think about giving a speech are you worried you'll make a mess of it?  Do you visualize yourself in front of your audience shaking in your shoes, sure you're going to make a mistake or forget a key point?  Do you avoid getting up in front of people because you're afraid you're a terrible speaker and it's too hard to get better?

Many people, when they have to give a speech, focus on everything that could go wrong.  They say to themselves, "I'll forget something important.  The audience won't like me.  They'll judge me.  They'll be bored, restless and won't pay attention.  Or worse, they'll laugh at me when I'm not even telling a joke!"
Give yourself a break!  You're a much better speaker than you think you are.  Honest.  You have the power to decide whether or not you're going to speak well.  You can choose to be the best speaker you can be.  Why not choose to speak brilliantly?

The key to being a memorable speaker is to focus on the message you're there to give that your audience came to hear.  Your message is your gift.  The human brain is so constructed that it can't entertain two separate thoughts at exactly the same moment.  We think sequentially, one thought after another.  So when you're concentrating on giving your gift, making your message "land", being sure your audience is getting what you're telling them, you can't at the same time be thinking how self-conscious you feel or what a lousy job you're doing.  It's humanly impossible.

When you get up to speak, concentrate on giving your gift.  There won't be time to think about yourself or become self-conscious because you'll be focused outward, on the audience, not inward on yourself.  Make a conscious choice to focus on giving the audience your gift and making your message land, and you'll speak brilliantly every time!

Why is it called "Speaking Is Sexy"?
Every time we say a word, we're inspiring someone with the power of our voice.   Think of some great speakers:  Franklin D. Roosevelt:  "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself!"  John F. Kennedy: "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country!"  Martin Luther King, Jr.:  "I have a dream!"  What they said and how they said it sends chills up and down our spine.  That's sexy!

Whether you're giving a speech, having a conversation, saying your wedding vows, teaching your kids, exhorting your sales team, or talking in your sleep, if someone is listening, you are inspiring them.  The results you get depend on what you say and how you say it at that moment.  It's important to remember that whenever you speak, someone is influenced by each word you say.  Be a positive influence.  Be an inspiration.  That's very, very sexy.
