May 2012 eLeaf: Meet our interns!

Greetings!

After numerous interviews and several highly qualified applicants, we finally reached a decision and hired three fantastic new interns for our Boulder, Colorado office! We are thrilled to have Austin, Lauren and Leda working with us this summer. Take a moment and learn about these three talented young people and the work that they will be doing with WILD!

Austin Perez
Nature Needs Half

My name is Austin Perez and I will be at the WILD Foundation this summer working as an intern for Nature Needs Half. I am very excited to have the opportunity to work on this project and to be able to apply my passion for wilderness conservation with my academic focus in environmental law to Nature Needs Half.

I just finished my second year of law school at the University of Colorado where I am pursuing a Juris Doctor degree with an emphasis in environmental and natural resources law, and I graduated from the University of Colorado in 2010 with bachelor's degrees in Environmental Studies and Economics. I first became interested and passionate about wilderness conservation after traveling around British Columbia and hiking through an old growth forest for the first time. I have been dedicated to working towards building a career in environmental conservation ever since, and I have now spent the past four years working at various jobs and internships in the environmental field. I decided to pursue an internship at the WILD Foundation and Nature Needs Half because he thought it would be an excellent opportunity to apply his academic background in environmental law and policy towards an interesting and exciting wilderness conservation initiative.

In my spare time I like to spend as much time outdoors as I can and enjoy hiking, biking, skiing, and backpacking all throughout Colorado. I also love to travel, and I have been fortunate enough to be able to spend time adventuring around Europe, Africa, Asia, and Central America.

Lauren DeGeorge Communications

My name is Lauren DeGeorge and I am the new communications intern at The WILD Foundation.  I am junior at CU-Boulder working on a degree in Environmental Studies.

I am a Colorado girl (born and raised!) and grew up skiing, camping and hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park.  All of my childhood memories take place outdoors amongst wildlife which created my passion for conservation and sustainability.

I am extremely excited to be the communications intern and look forward working with people and helping to spread the word of all the things WILD does. In my free time I love to ski, ride horses, spend time with my family, and enjoy all of the wonderful things Boulder has to offer!

Leda Borys
Administrative

I stumbled across WILD when I moved to Boulder this past winter. When I finally decided to Google them, it was love at first click! I knew I wanted to be involved, but already held a full time job as a massage therapist. Luckily, full time for us is not 40 hours! Volunteering has been the perfect fit.

I hold a B.S. in Outdoor Education and Leadership and have worked many years for the National Outdoor Leadership School so travel, the outdoors and wild spaces have been a passion for me my whole life. After having spent so many years traveling to and in beautiful places (and seeing firsthand how they are being impacted), finally being able to help keep those places as I saw them, is nothing short of a dream come true (and a chance to walk the walk, not just talk the talk!).

I hope that by supporting the staff at WILD, I am helping to support a global shift towards a more conscious way of interacting with the planet and its inhabitants. This photo was taken on a cache stashing trip in Denali. We were crossing the McKinley River and a herd of caribou were crossing in the other direction!

The Tracks of Giants expedition is fully launched!

Don't miss out on the exciting updates as the team travels by foot, bike and kayak from the west coast of Namibia all the way to the east coast of South Africa! www.tracksofgiants.org
