What is an Umbrella Policy and Do I Need One?
No, umbrella policies don't pay if you lose your umbrella or if it is destroyed in high winds. Umbrella policies are liability policies that cover you above and beyond the limits of your other policies you have in force. Umbrella policies are typically inexpensive. As low as $90 for $1 Million in coverage. Do you need one? Assets that are uninsured are, essentially, insured by YOU and can be included in a large liability settlement. For example, if your total assets are $500,000 and your automobile liability policy limit is $300,000 you are left with $200,000 of uninsured assets!
