VETERINARY EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT LEGAL ISSUES
High turnover among veterinary associates is caused principally by the failure of practice owners and employees to properly articulate their respective expectations and negotiate and document the employment relationship. Time and effort invested up front will help avoid mismatched expectations,  misunderstandings and separation down the road. Can the practice even afford another full-time veterinarian? Management consultants estimate that a small animal practice vet needs to produce 3,000-4,000 transactions annually and collect a minimum of $180,000-$250,000 gross income (excluding OTC product sales) to be worth his salary.

ANIMAL DISASTER RELIEF AND RESPONSE FUND
AVMF is a member of the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti which is jointly led by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA).
Animal welfare organizations formed the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH) so that we could work together to bring aid to as many animals, and in as short a time, as possible. IF YOU'RE FRENCH, DON'T INSULT YOUR SPOUSE
Married couples in France could end up with criminal records for insulting each other during arguments. Under a proposed new law, France is to become the first country in the world to ban "psychological violence" within marriage. The law would apply to cohabiting couples and to both men and women. It would cover men who shout at their wives and women who hurl abuse at their husbands - although it was not clear last night if nagging would be viewed as breaking the law. The law is expected to cover every kind of insult including repeated rude remarks about a partner's appearance, false allegations of infidelity and threats of physical violence. KETAMINE RECALL CLARIFICATION
On December 22, 2009, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a nationwide voluntary recall of ketamine hydrochloride injectable (100mg/ml, 10ml vials) manufactured by Teva Animal Health, Inc. Not all Teva products are affected by the recall. Butorphanol is not affected by the expanded ketamine recall. Several butorphanol products manufactured by Teva Animal Health, Inc. were recalled as a precautionary measure at the distributor level in September 2009. Neither Teva Animal Health, Inc. nor the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine has observed an increasing trend of adverse event reports associated with the use of these butorphanol products that would justify further action beyond the initial precautionary recall in September.
