Meet Hollie Shaner-McRae DNP, RN, FAAN of

Fletcher Allen Health Care

I have been walking to work for the past couple of years. Burlington is a great community with lots of sidewalks and well lit streets. Sometimes I opt to bicycle in, but mostly, I walk. It's a great way to get in physical activity every day, regardless of the weather. As I've learned more about Peak Oil and Climate change, and the huge environmental impact relying on cars creates, I feel like I'm doing my part for the environment by NOT using a car. I've enjoyed spending the extra time outdoors and the many wonderful attributes of our community that can best be appreciated on foot - things such as gardens, trees, interesting architecture and people. The CATMA Bike/Walk Reward Program provides a little extra incentive. Getting the gift card every 8 weeks is a nice treat. I also joined the CarShare Vermont program, which makes it super convenient to access a car if I have an offsite meeting or appointment that requires a car.
