The winter months are akin to the dog days. Literally. The sun sets sooo early, it's frickin' cold, and you feel like you haven't seen sunshine in like forever, right? To make matters worse your parka makes you look like the Michelin Man, and you've given a new meaning to the phrase "muffin top". You'd really like to shed the extra holiday pounds, but you just don't have the energy or enthusiasm to do it. If it's not extra fat that's weighing you down, maybe it's this unshakable tendency to want to climb into bed and never come out, or maybe it's the inability to stay focused or feel enthusiastic about anything. Do you want to find a cave and hibernate? Just wake you up when it's all over??
Well according to the experts, if you'd rather be hibernating you're probably experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder, a.k.a. the Winter Blues. Is it any coincidence that its acronym is SAD?? The latest statistics show that almost 40 million Americans (that's A LOT) suffer from some form of S.A.D. The statistics also show that the majority of those inflicted with the winter blues generally add 5-15 lbs from Thanksgiving to Spring. Other symptoms include sleep disorders, moodiness, irritability, depression, inability to concentrate and chronic food cravings. You feeling any better yet?
