The AIM Center and the PACER Center are delighted to share with you two new publications for families explaining AIM and how they may benefit students with disabilities. Learn more below!

Although written for families, we think you'll find that both publications have information that's useful for advocates, educators, and other stakeholders working with students and families.

AIM: A Technical Guide for Families and Advocates

What does it cover?
Background information on AIM provisions in IDEA, definitions of terms, a thorough description of the decision making process for AIM, and where to find additional resources.

How might I use it?
It's a great reference guide to have on hand since it succinctly touches on every aspect of the considerations around accessible instructional materials. Hand it out to families, bring it to an IEP meeting, or use it as a handout in trainings on AIM.

How can I get a copy now?
Download at no cost from the AIM Center or PACER Center (coming soon!) websites.

How can I order multiple copies?
Order through the PACER Center by calling 952-838-9000 or completing a publication order form. The Technical Guide is available for $3 or $2.50 for orders of 10 or more.

An introductory booklet, written in plain language, that outlines the four steps of the AIM decision-making process. Available soon in Spanish!

Meet the AIM Center Team

Anita Simpson, AIM and NIMAS Centers

As the Administrative Assistant for the AIM and NIMAS Centers, Anita provides administrative support with contracts and agreements as well as planning and facilitating all teleconferences, meetings and conferences. She brings several years of experience as a Senior Technical Writer where she designed and developed user and technical instructional materials for high tech firms including PictureTel, Computervision, Osram Sylvania, and Digital Equipment Corporation. A former elementary school teacher, with special interests in learning disabilities, Anita holds a B.S. in Education from the University of Southern Maine.

The National Center on Accessible Instructional Materials and PACER Center have published two new booklets for families explaining accessible instructional materials and how they may benefit students with disabilities. A "basics" booklet and technical guide are available to download at no cost, and print copies are also available. Learn more at aim.cast.org/learn/aim4families.
