May 26th: Federal Government Issues Dear Colleague Letter on Accessibility in K-12 and Post-Secondary
"VERY interesting information for everyone to know about as the world moves to (not always accessible) digital content and delivery systems! This is a MUST READ for all of you..."
Joy Zabala Director of Technical Assistance CAST and the AIM Center Technology Must Be Accessible to All, Feds Reaffirm, Education Week, May 26, 2011
Dear Colleague letter issued by Russlynn H. Ali, Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Education, May 26, 2011 "And be sure to follow the link to the FAQ (15 questions)," says Chuck Hitchcock, Project Director for the AIM Center. "This is where you will find all of the meaty stuff. It is also terrific to see that the Office of Civil Rights clearly states that the content of the higher education Dear Colleague letter [issued on June 29, 2010] applies to K-12 as well. This OCR letter and FAQ provide an important reinforcement of each school's responsibilities under ADA and Section 504. I know, I'm preaching to the choir."
Please help us spread the word to those in your state who may be involved in acquiring technology.
