Updated and Newly Released from the AIM Center

"Accessible Textbooks in the K-12 Classroom - An Educator's Guide" (2010). Offers educators-administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals- with an easy-to-use resource for the latest accurate solutions for acquiring and using accessible, alternate format versions of print instructional materials in the classroom. Covers existing solutions and uncovers emerging trends in the market.

"Accessible Textbooks in the K-12 Classroom II - Selecting Specialized Formats" (2010). Updated  guidelines for determining which alternate formats are best suited to a given student's print-related challenges-with a special focus on the acquisition and use of digital text. Reviews the various types of digital text, multiple options for output from digital text, and provides an overview of recommended digital text formats for students with specific learning disabilities.

Meet the AIM Center Team

Skip Stahl, AIM Center

A nationally recognized expert in accessible digital materials and Universal Design for Learning, Skip has extensive experience in the development of technical standards related to accessible instructional materials, technical assistance to states, and professional development for educators.

He is the director of the federally-funded NIMAS Center, where he leads a national initiative implementing the transformation of K-12 textbooks into specialized accessible formats for students with print disabilities. In addition to his leadership of the NIMAS Center, Skip works with education and instructional materials policy advocates to assure that instructional materials are accessible, appropriate and readily available to all students.
