Greetings!
My Dad came out from Michigan to see our first production of Escanaba in da Moonlight. Now, I never hunted with my Dad but he did with his. The second he saw our Escanaba cabin he whispered, "I know this place!"

We watched the show belly-laughing like all of the other fathers and sons in the audience. Afterward, I took him up on the stage. Slowly he started recognizing some of the things dressing the set. When my Grandpa died I had taken his old tools and fishing poles and things and here they were on the Aurora Fox stage!
The Escanaba plays are about passing on stories, skills and traditions. I suppose this is 'afterlife' to the vaguely religious among us. I know that bits of my great-grandpas will live on in my kids as long as I take time to tell them the stories.
As a solemn bow of respect to generations of Michigan ancestors, da rest of dis newlettr' ll be sprinkled wit bits o'da local language. We do da same ting wit buck piss round da tree stands.

Aurora Warms the Night (warm clothing drive) |
HELPING OUR NEIGHBORS IN NEED
The Aurora Fox is partnering with Aurora Warms the Night AND the Aurora Arts District to make sure our neighbors have a warm, safe winter.
For the Aurora Arts District, we are collecting
children and teen sizes of gloves, hats and scarves for Santa to hand out at our annual neighborhood tree-lighting in Fletcher Plaza on December 9th. You can drop off donations to any of the businesses located in the Arts District (including the Aurora Fox) through the 8th of December.
Our larger, more long-term commitment is to collect warm clothing, toiletries, energy bars, water and outdoor gear for those in need in our community.
Aurora Warms the Night puts together care packages made from donated items to make sure people have options as the temperature dips during the frigid Colorado winters. Specific needs at this time include:
Warms socks, gloves, hats, sweaters in all sizes (men, women and children). Bottled water. Toiletries (hand soap, shampoo, combs, tooth brushes, toothpaste). And most importantly, blankets and sleeping bags.
To learn more about the mission of Aurora Warms the Night, please visit their website: (http://aurorawarmsthenight.com).

The Zombies are getting closer! | |
What do hyenas and zombies have in common? THIS AWESOME NEW ROCK OPERA!
Omari Tau presents Kill! Kill! Or Die! - A Zombie Rock Opera one night only at The Aurora Fox.
The Aurora Fox is proud to host the premiere concert reading of a new original musical, Kill! Kill! Or Die! - A Zombie Rock Opera. This highly anticipated 80's style rock n' roll romp, featuring cast members (several hyenas!) from Disney's THE LION KING, will play one performance only on Monday, November 28 at 7:00pm at the Aurora Fox. Mark your calendars and get your tickets NOW!

In the dark of night, a meteor falls just outside a hospital full of desperate nurses, doctors and lovers. Created by this molten moon rock, flesh-hungry zombies lurk in the shadows tormenting these medical professionals who seem lost in a maze of blinding white corridors, sexual indiscretions and wailing guitars.
Will the spoken-word-poet/contortionist find her way through the ducts to save them? Will the gun-toting emasculated cuckold escape with his miserable wife? Their fates lie in that zany space somewhere between death, desire and a foot-stomping back beat. If they want to survive, they must Kill! Kill! Or Die!

Omari Tau - Kill Kill or Die! (member of Actors' Equity) | Composer/Librettist Omari Tau, is a Sacramento, California native who's been traveling as a performer with Disney's THE LION KING for nearly nine years. He is currently performing the role of Banzai, a nasty hyena in the North American Tour. Tau, and other Lion King cast members, combined their eclectic talents to create a new musical of their own: Kill! Kill! Or Die! - A Zombie Rock Opera (a campy Rocky Horror-esque, musical event) and they're excited to strut their Zombie stuff in this staged concert reading for one creepy cool night at The Fox.
Please note: Kill! Kill! Or Die! - A Zombie Rock Opera contains adult language and subject matter and is not suited for young children. Oh, and we're having a rockin' zombie party on stage after the show!
All tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance via the telephone by calling the Aurora Fox Box Office at 303-739-1970 or online at AuroraFox.org.

Hey! Haven't We Seen Him? ... |
A QUICK INTERVIEW WITH ACTOR BILL HAHN
Interviewer: Hello dere, welcome back to da Fox.
BH: Thank you. It's always good to be back.
IV: So, what gotcha started dere wit dat stage tingy?
BH: That's hard to pinpoint. As a little kid I was really into the 12" G.I. Joes. I would act out these very intricate dramas based on whatever caught my childish mind at the time. I wasn't just into just having G.I. Joe be in battle all the time. I was intrigued with Joe's downtime off the battlefield. My G.I. Joe's were heavy drinkers, womanizers and always involved in some kind of domestic drama that was unfolding parallel to their jobs as soldiers.
For some odd reason I was very much into realism when playing as a kid. The G.I. Joes had to deal with that, the matchbox cars had to deal with that. My playmates had to deal with that. It wasn't until I was in high school that I first stepped on stage. A friend of mind got me involved in the drama department.
IV: What was da show?
BH: It was a production of TEN LITTLE INDIANS by Agatha Christie.
IV: And, jus' like dat, you were hooked?
BH: Not really. At the time everything about performing a play was a foggy, intangible thing for my 15 year old brain. I remember on the first night I went up and felt true stage panic for the first time.
IV: Jesus crumps!
BH: I'm sure it took a couple weeks off my life. Anyway, I ended up going to college and getting a scholarship through the theater department and from there I just never stopped.
IV: Who's yer fav'rite fella ya ever acted on da stage, dere?
 | |
Bill Hahn in K2 |
BH: Well...I had the luxury of playing Max
in a play called BENT on two separate occasions, once when I was 24 and then ten years later when I was the proper age
to be playing the part. Both were incredibly rewarding experiences. I would have to say that playing Ralph in the play FROZEN was really wonderful. This, despite the fact the character is an absolute sociopathic monster. Both of those roles were hard to let pass away. Also, playing Harold in K2 and getting to recite that beautiful monologue about the Japanese Glacier Fox will always hold a place in my heart.
IV: Mine, too. So, what gives ya da inspiration?
BH: You mean in a theatrical sense?
IV: Ya.
BH: Great writing. And by that I mean great story telling. But I guess even more than that I am inspired by potential. The beginning of a production is always a little unsure in some respect.
On most occasions you begin your first rehearsal in an empty room with tape on the floor representing walls, and doors, or ice walls, whatever. No one is secure in their lines. There are questions about lines and actions written in the script. And during that first week almost everyone thinks to themselves for a brief second, "Holy crap, this is the Titanic."
And as you go through the rehearsal process you start to begin to see these little things pop up. A wall goes up on the set, someone breaks through on a scene or even a line, and you see the potential that this could actually work out all right. And as those potentials build day after day you find yourself in a place where you think "This could potentially be pretty damn awesome."
IV: Tanks fer sharin'. Break dem legs in ESCANABA: 1922. |

Read and Rant! | |
Our new play reading club called Read and Rant is proving to be quite popular. In Read and Rant we try to figger out what dem play-writers were tinking.
The Read and Rant group held its first meeting in early October and had a great time discussing magical realism and how to create outlandish special effects in a live setting.
This month we're reading two more plays, Race Relations by Carrie Printz and Into The Wild Blue by Ayla Harrison and we'll be meeting on November 8th at 7pm to discuss readers' thoughts and opinions about whether they are a good fit for The Fox to consider for production.
You wanna know do trut 'bout play-writers? Dey eat'r got a drink in dere hand or dey're on dere way to find one. But don't get me started on dat, eh?
The group is filling fast, but If you would like to participate, please send a quick note to Patricia so we can get you started this month!
