Greetings!
We kick off each season with a Black-Tie Gala with a catered dinner, silent auction and performance of the season opener. This year instead of performing just Rashomon, we did a season sampler. Short bits of stuff from our season and from our performance partners, and even some slam poetry performed by Shadow's Crunk.

Fox Gala Bloopers (Charlie in a chicken suit!) |
Everyone left with a deeper appreciation for the variety of things that happen throughout the year at The Fox. They left understanding that The Fox is here to provide entertainment of course, but also to reflect and comment on society, to provide confidence and poise for young performers and to be an economic and social engine for the neighborhood.
The business leaders and politicians in attendance that evening left knowing that The Fox is a place where both audience members and performers feel like they belong.

THE MAKING OF A ... ???
by Patricia Wells
As you well know, we're always up to something a little goofy or messy or over the top at the Fox. This morning, hoping to see something explode or ooze or spin wildly, I wandered into the scene shop and this is what I found:
| |
I'm calling this a "whozeewhatsit" |
Now, I'm used to seeing some pretty strange stuff back there, like an old covered wagon (without the cover) hanging from the ceiling, a random fireplace or two, a bench seat from an old car, 6 foot tall candy canes, random walls and doors, and scary looking power tools that I've been forbidden to touch. But this, this... whozeewhatsit takes the cake.
I have been assured it will be a stunning masterpiece featured prominently in one of our upcoming shows. I'm hoping they mean it will be in a pile of junk holding up a flat or covered with greenery or something. Maybe it's a footstool. Or a rustic thingamajig that will sit, hopefully inconspicuously, off to one side of the stage. As the marketing director, I'm a little nervous.
| |
A tad bit skeptical |
I'm going to continue to do some sleuthing. I'll catch back up with you next month. Maybe we can figure this out together!

The Zombies are coming!
Omari Tau presents Kill! Kill! Or Die! - A Zombie Rock Opera one night only at The Aurora Fox.
The Aurora Fox is proud to host the premiere concert reading of a new original musical, Kill! Kill! Or Die! - A Zombie Rock Opera This highly anticipated 80's style rock n' roll romp, featuring cast members from Disney's THE LION KING, will play one performance only on Monday, November 28 at 7:00pm at the Aurora Fox. Mark your calendars and get your tickets NOW!

In the dark of night, a meteor falls just outside a hospital full of desperate nurses, doctors and lovers. Created by this molten moon rock, flesh-hungry zombies lurk in the shadows tormenting these medical professionals who seem lost in a maze of blinding white corridors, sexual indiscretions and wailing guitars.
Will the spoken-word-poet/contortionist find her way through the ducts to save them? Will the gun-toting emasculated cuckold escape with his miserable wife? Their fates lie in that zany space somewhere between death, desire and a foot-stomping back beat. If they want to survive, they must Kill! Kill! Or Die!
Composer/Librettist Omari Tau, is a Sacramento, California native who's been traveling as a performer with Disney's THE LION KING for nearly nine years. He is currently performing the role of Banzai, a nasty hyena in the North American Tour. Tau, and other Lion King cast members, combined their eclectic talents to create a new musical of their own: Kill! Kill! Or Die! - A Zombie Rock Opera (a campy Rocky Horror-esque, musical event) and they're excited to strut their Zombie stuff in this staged concert reading for one creepy cool night at The Fox.
Please note: Kill! Kill! Or Die! - A Zombie Rock Opera contains adult language and subject matter and is not suited for young children.
All tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance via the telephone by calling the Aurora Fox Box Office at 303-739-1970 or online at AuroraFox.org.

Hey! Haven't we seen him...
BEN DICKE
As a seventh grade boy who had yet to break the five foot mark, Ben was too short to play basketball. And growing up in Kansas, life for a junior high boy was all about hoops.
It was devastating at first, realizing that his drive to be a star athlete didn't match up with his physical abilities. Ben's mother, however, knew that he had other abilities that he might enjoy fostering.
Having played the lead role in several Church plays, the local children's theatre's Christmas production seemed a logical place for him to work off some of his seemingly endless after-school energy. After auditioning

and receiving the "character lead," a toy-stealing villain named "Bad Boy Butch," his fate as a lifetime theatre artist was permanently sealed.
Now, with a degree in theatre education and a master's in theatre performance, acting, directing and teaching theatre are more than full-time jobs for Ben. The bug bit so hard, in fact, that work for him has been a series of part-time and temporary jobs that provide just enough income to support his "habit". He explains that it could have been worse as a seventh grade boy..."I could have taken up smoking"!
Ben played Robbie Hart in last year's production of The Wedding Singer and the angst-ridden Henry in The Skin of Our Teeth. He is also a teacher in our after-school Little Foxes Education Program. He'll be teaching Cinemagic and Physical Comedy classes for us this Winter.
Most recently he's been seen around the Fox putting other actors through some tough auditions for Xanadu, which he will direct in the Spring.
Luckily, he cast the show in time to get his focus back on the 100-mile run he'll be undertaking this weekend. Actors sure have interesting hobbies! |

New Stuff! | |
Our new Staged Reading Series has been entertaining, mind-blowing, gut-wrenching, brain-taxing and everything in between. We have one final reading in our Fall series. Join us this Saturday, October 8th at 7pm, for a staged reading of our Audience Pick Winner: American Girls. Readings are free for season ticket holders and just $5 at the door for the general public. All readings are presented in the Studio Theatre.
ALSO, our new play reading club called Read and Rant is proving to be quite popular. This is a new program for Fox ambassadors to be on the lookout for new plays to be produced at The Aurora Fox.
The Read and Rant Group will read at least one play a month and then meet to discuss thoughts and opinions aobut whether it is a fit for The Fox and whether we should consider it for future production.
The group is filling fast, but If you would like to participate, please send a quick note to Patricia so we can get you started. Our first Read and Rant meeting will be October 11 at The Fox from 7-10pm. We'll let you know how that goes! |
