On January 25 and 26, Campbell County Economic Development Corporation and the Wyoming Business Council hosted the German company Welter Maschinen Gmbh in Gillette and Campbell County. Welter Maschinen's headquarter is in Lahr/Schwarzwald, the heart of Germany's Black Forest. With more than 100 employees, the company is one of the best known in the fields of drive technology and mechanical engineering. The company was very impressed with Gillette Colleges's new 91,000 square-foot Technology Center. Welter Maschinen's president, Dr. Peter Leoni said it was one of the best technical centers he has seen in all his travels around the world. Dr. Leoni met with and toured two of CCEDC's major investors, L&H Industrial and Black Hills Corporation.
L&H Industrial is a leading after-market supplier in the mining industry and a worldwide rebuilder of heavy equipment an engineer, design and manufacture alternative replacement parts for the surface mining industry. L&H Industrial has facilities in Gillette, Sheridan, Rock Springs, Phoenix, Tucson, South Africa, Mexico, and Chile and distributors in all the major mining areas worldwide.
Black Hills Corporation, headquartered in Rapid City, SD, operates several power generation facilities and the Wyodak mine outside of Gillette. Dr. Leoni and guests toured the Wyodak mine and the new $250 million Gen III power plant. Dr. Leoni was impressed with the technology that both companies possess and the friendliness of all the workers he met throughout the tours.
CCEDC would like to thank Sean Stevens and Dave Spencer of the Wyoming Business Council for providing this lead and for their assistance in setting up the two-day visit.
