 | Women Build Family Story:
The Family That Builds Together, Stays Together | |
Strength, love, and determination are what it took for Mahmoud Dalal and Saba Abdelkadir to accomplish their dream of homeownership in the United States.
On October 1, 2011 this family's lifelong dream of owning their own home began to become a reality because of Knoxville Habitat for Humanity's Women Build 2011.
It was love at first site for Ethiopian born, Saba, and Somalia native Mahmoud, who met through a mutual friend in Ethiopia. They spoke different native languages but were able to communicate through their mutual understanding of Arabic. The pair started a family together in Somalia and had two children, Jamal and Amir.

 | Habitat for Humanity Surpasses 500,000 Houses with Builds in Kenya, New Jersey
|
Habitat for Humanity marked a major milestone Oct. 3 when it dedicated its 500,000th house in Maai Mahiu, Kenya, and begins construction on its 500,001st house in Paterson, N.J.
Knoxville Habitat for Humanity is among the more than 2,300 Habitat affiliates worldwide that have made this milestone possible, having built 419 houses since its founding in 1985. Additionally, through HFHI's tithing program, Knoxville Habitat for Humanity provides the funds to build one house internationally for every four houses it builds locally.
The milestone houses represent the steady increase in Habitat for Humanity's scale and scope to help more families in need of decent, affordable housing. In 2005, Habitat celebrated its 200,000th house. Six years later, Habitat for Humanity has more than doubled that number through new, rehabilitated, repaired and improved homes.

You can continue that support after you pass away by leaving an endowed gift, a gesture that will represent an ongoing legacy of your support
When you make an endowed gift, only a small portion of your gift will be spent in the initial year, and the remaining amount will continue to grow in perpetuity, generating an annual gift to supplement our programs forever.
