'Urban' Renewal In Knoxville:
Keith Urban Dedicates KHFH Home

Keith UrbanCountry music recording artist Keith Urban gave new meaning to the term "urban" renewal in Knoxville August 12th when he presented keys to the homeowner for the newest house on Knoxville's "Music Row" - a Knoxville Habitat for Humanity initiative inspired and funded by the Charlie and Moll Anderson Family Foundation.

17-Year-Old Drew Farr Makes An Impact Through Volunteerism

Drew Farr  

Drew Farr is a junior at Webb School of Knoxville. He is 17 years old and has been volunteering with Knoxville Habitat for Humanity to lead shed builds. His family is actively involved in Habitat and his father, Skip Farr (pictured at left with Drew), is a long-time board member and volunteer. Many Green & BluePrints readers may remember the story of Lucas, Drew's younger brother, who has contributed a portion of his allowance to Knoxville Habitat for Humanity in the past.

Our 2011 Christmas/Holiday cards are now available for pre-sale. This year's card and accompanying insert is the third in a series featuring a distinctive bird and its nest, an artistic "nod" to the mission of KHFH and its overarching goal to provide the security of human "nests" through its construction of Habitat homes.This year's featured bird is the Ruby-throated hummingbird.

Calling All Women:
Women Build Training Session Sept. 17

Women Build  

The blitz for the 2011 Women Build is rapidly approaching on October 1st. We are actively recruiting women to participate and have scheduled a training class for all interested people.

 

Lori Gano, the house leader for the Women Build, is planning a general construction class for Saturday September 17th, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The class will take place at the Habitat office beginning in the Construction/Heart & Soul classroom.

Thrift Store Partners with ETTAC to Provide Donated Medical Equipment

Medical Equipment  

Our Thrift Store has entered into a partnership with the East Tennessee Technology Access Center (ETTAC) to provide donated medical equipment that comes into the Thrift Store.

 

ETTAC is  a regional nonprofit agency that helps people with disabilities gain knowledge about and access to assistive technology devices.  These devices help people with disabilities gain education and employment skills, perform activities of daily living, an lead more independent, productive lives.  ETTAC's assistive technology equipment is used for assessment and training, and some devices may also be available for loan.
