Volunteer Spotlight: David Lloyd

David Lloyd
David Lloyd has the "Habitat Fever."

Lloyd is a regular Tuesday-Thursday volunteer at Knoxville Habitat for Humanity who volunteers his time and skills on the electrical crew, a group of approximately 10 retired gentlemen led by KHFH staff member Danny Mitchell.

Before Lloyd's retirement from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, he volunteered to build with Habitat through his church, Fountain City Presbyterian, a long-standing Covenant Partner. But in 1996 after his retirement, Lloyd's friend and fellow parishioner Bill Whitehead asked him to become more regularly involved in the mission of Habitat as a member of the electrical crew.

2010 Christmas Cards
Now Available for Pre-Order

2010 Christmas CardsKnoxville Habitat for Humanity is pleased to announce the production of the second in the ongoing series of unique Christmas/Holiday cards, suitable for framing after the season.

The 2010 card and accompanying insert continues the theme of a distinctive bird and its nest, an artistic "nod" to the mission of KHFH and its overarching goal to provide the security of human "nests" through its construction of Habitat homes. Additionally, this year's insert will offer two greeting options: "Happy Holidays from Our Home to Yours" or "Merry Christmas from Our Home to Yours." It will have an indication that the card is being sent in lieu of a gift. A note on the back of the card will state, "The proceeds from the sale of this card go to benefit the mission of Knoxville Habitat for Humanity."

Planning Ahead: Year-End Giving

Giving a HandBuilding a house is no small task.  It requires commitment, resources, time, and above all, detailed planning.

An individual's support of a non-profit requires planning, too.  The month of October is a wonderful point to begin reviewing the various charitable gifts each of us makes during the previous three quarters and decide if there are additional gifts we should or could make before the end of the calendar year.
