Greetings!

This is a busy weekend! Tonight we have Dr. Doherty visiting from the San Francisco Exploratorium presenting at the State theater (see the description below), followed by a Saturday of gardening and stargazing!

On Saturday the 7th, from 11am-1pm learn to outsmart the deer in a Gardening with the Masters Class on Gardening in Deer Country. From gardening with deer resistance varieties to techniques for protecting those plants that attract deer. Takes place rain or shine! Make a day out of it and bring a picnic lunch. Nature Shop open. Free to members, General Admission is $5/person.

We also moved last weeks rained out Astronomy class "How to Use Your Telescope" to Saturday the 7th! This is a once-a-year workshop presented by Don Macholz. From reflectors to scopes, you will learn how to set-up, operate and use your telescope.  By the end of the workshop you will know, not only how to set it up but also the best places and ways to search the night sky. You'll also learn about where to get star maps. The class is almost full, so sign up quickly if you are interested (all participants must preregister).
Apr. 6, Friday, 7:30pm-9:30pm

From the discovery of electrostatis to the invention of batteries, to the diverse electrically-powered devices of the modern world, Dr. Paul Doherty makes electricity fun as he shares hands-on activities.

Dr. Doherty, visiting Auburn from the San Francisco Exploratorium, is a world-renown presenter on science topics. Having presented to audiences and competed in Africa to Europe and right here in Placer County, he is a master at presenting complex concepts in easy to understand and engaging ways.

From the marriage of electricity and magnetism to how to make electromagnetic waves, he will also discuss electric currents and voltage and the importance of electric safety around the house.

Dr. Doherty has taken interactive physics to an entirely new level of fun. He will remove any "resistance" you have to electricity as he sends "currents" of excitement through the audience with easy to do and understand investigations (don't worry - they are all entirely safe!).
