Creature Feature: California Slender Salamander
Look closely at this one! You may think it's a snake. Yet it is a true amphibian, the California slender salamander, Batrachoseps attenuatus. The Latin name means lizard-like and slender or narrow, quite fitting for this small amphibian. Read more... Give the gift of nature this holiday!

First Friday Lecture Friday, December 3
Location: Utility Exploration Center, 1501 Pleasant Grove Blvd. Roseville, CA 95747
Doors open at 7 PM with free locally grown goodies offered by Foothill Farmer's Market growers!
Lectures start promptly at 7:30 PM. Please arrive early as there are no seat reservations
Marie Brown, owner of Eco-Chic Design will show you ways you can make your holidays a little greener. Marie will give examples for entertaining, decorating and gift giving.
"I feel that people can have a better idea of how to green their holidays when they can actually see and do it for themselves," says Brown. "In addition to stimulating their creative juices, I will also give them the means and information to get started right away." Carnivorous Plants of California - Grow your own!

Saturday, December 11 11am - 2pm at Placer Nature Center
Did you know we have native carnivorous plants in California; like the Cobra Lily (seen on the left)?
Insect-eating plants grow all over the world, including several in California.
Get up-close and personal with some local and exotic bug-eating plants. See hands-on demonstrations on caring for a number of easy-to-grow carnivorous plants, and view a presentation on the wide variety in existence. Learn where to find them, how to grow and care for them and how to pot and divide them. Some carnivorous plants will be available as prizes and to purchase! Keith Smith, Past President of the Sacramento Bromeliad & Carnivorous Plant Society will answer your questions and present pictures of carnivorous plants.
Takes place rain or shine!
Make a day out of it and bring a picnic lunch.
Great for ages 4+; Nature Shop open. Free to members and children, General Admission is $5/adult.
