Join naturalist, conservationist and recently retired Sierra College biology professor Joe Medeiros on an armchair tour of the wildlife and habitats of Western Placer County.

For more than 35 years Medeiros has hiked, studied and led countless trips of students and mountain enthusiasts through the Sierras while serving as a National Park Ranger at Devils Postpile National Monument.  Now you can experience the wonders and beauty of Placer County as Medeiros shares his photographs, stories and passion about our glorious back yard.

Medeiros' tour will help you get to know our natural neighbors that share our yards, homes and communities with us.  Medeiros will show you how to be a good neighbor to experience the rewards of living with nature.  During the lecture Medeiros will also explain how to attract, identify, nurture and protect the wild plants and animals that share our backyards and neighborhoods.

The Incredible Journey of Salmon
Saturday, November 13
11am - 2pm
at
Placer Nature Center

Why all the fuss about salmon? Everywhere that salmon swim, they have become a part of the local culture. People from Japan to Russia value salmon and include them in various ceremonies. And from Alaska to California, salmon have formed the base of tribal cultures. Learn about their incredible journey from our creeks to the ocean through lots of fun activities.

As the children color the salmon life cycle you can talk to local experts, Save Auburn Ravine Steelhead and Salmon (SARSAS),  about our anadromous fish and what you can do to help.  Children get to make and take a salmon hat as well as masks of the local wildlife who depend on salmon. Create a watershed bracelet to remember all the amazing stages of water in our area. All attendees will get to take home a free poster and activity, coloring  book! Tour our scale model of our local watershed and challenge yourself to find the salmon in our floor mural!

Great for ages 3+; Nature Shop Open!
Free to members and children, General Public is $5/adult.
