Rat-a-Tat-Tat Driving You Crazy?
This winter season a northern flicker woodpecker has taken up residence in a pecked hole in the Nature Center's attic! We did some research and talked with our local Audubon Society.. Find out what we are doing...

2009 in a Nutshell:
In 2009 (through November) we were able to directly touch the following lives with our programs:
  • 5,800 students (preschool-high school) experienced nature through our science-based education
  • 2,943 adults and children have connected with nature in our community programs
  • 150 teachers (representing over 2,500 students of all ages) received continuing education in science- based nature curricula to take back to the classroom
  • 30 Docents and other Key Volunteers donated 6,939 hours for school and community programs as well as much needed administration
  • 5 Eagle Scout and High School Senior Projects
  • 4 new Docents trained to deliver over 20 different environmental education programs
  • 3 internships providing workplace experience in education and nonprofit administration
Other highlights include:
  • Expanded programming to reach ESL children
  • New programming that can be delivered in the school yard to offset the inability of schools to afford bus transportation
  • A new Nature & Science program for home-schooled children
  • Teenagers engaged to get outside and "see" nature in new ways through the lens of a camera
Our collaborations:
  • Distributed 200 shade trees as part of the Placer Tree Partners
  • Delivered important water conservation education in partnership with Placer County Water Agency and the Placer County Storm Water Quality Division
In 2010 we hope to:
  • Expand off site education programs to reach more regional schools unable to travel to the nature center
  • Develop targeted high school education programs
  • Acquire funding to enable Science & Stewardship in the Schoolyard to expand and be delivered monthly (currently a 3 session program)
Thank you for all your support!
We can't do it without you.

SEF challenges Placer County residents:

Paul W. Morgan, Co Chair of the Social Enterprise Fund (SEF), kicked off Placer Nature Center's Annual Giving Campaign with a major challenge gift of $24,000.  If matched by members of the Placer County community, a total of $48,000 will be available to ignite the love of science and nature in 8,000 area school children.

Read what motivated Morgan to give to Placer Nature Center.

Accept the Challenge!

Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) has partnered with the Placer Nature Center to deliver water education field trips to Placer County schools. This special funding allows schools to incorporate important watershed learning into the curriculum while meeting the California Content Standards. Students learn about their role in the watershed as well as the use and conservation of natural resources.
