Nature News:

Reasons to be anti-antibacterial:
Who knew that washing your hands could harm your health and the environment? Thanks to the chemical industry, a hazardous antibacterial compound called triclosan is now an ingredient in many household and personal care products such as soaps, cleaners, cosmetics, clothing, and even children's toys. (We just found it in or soaps at the the center and will be changing our brands!) While consumers might think triclosan can protect them from harmful bacteria, it turns out that the use of this dangerous chemical in household products is no more effective than soap and water; and may be doing more harm than good. Plus, this chemical has recently been found in the the blood of dolphins!

Living with plastic:
Researchers on both sides of the plastics fence appear to agree on one point: Even when chemicals do leach into food, it's not clear to what extent humans are affected by them. So it's up to you whether you believe plastics are bad for the human body, but cutting out plastics is good for the environment. Not only do millions of pounds of plastic find their way into landfills every year, 14 percent of air pollution nationwide is from plastic production, and that's without taking into account the Great Garbage Patch that is today roughly the size of Texas. Read more about how you can avoid using plastic on our blog...

Placer Nature Center Reusable Water Bottle
Let's Take Back the Tap because:
... Bottled water is not safer than tap water. In fact, the federal government requires far more rigorous and frequent safety testing and monitoring of municipal drinking water.
... Bottled water is thousands of times more expensive than tap water. Compare $0.002 per gallon for most tap water to a range of $0.89 to $8.26 per gallon for bottled waters.
... Bottled water creates mountains of needless garbage and contributes to other environmental problems.
