DEMCO Library Innovative Award
This award recognizes a library's achievement in planning and implementing an innovative or creative program or service, which has had measurable impact on its users. The purpose of this award is to encourage innovation by highlighting the overall activities of a library (including staff, administration, governance, and volunteers) in successfully marshaling its resources to benefit its users.
Deborah Dowley Preiser Award

The person so honored's achievements should reflect the importance of publicity and adult programming as central to the role of the library as a community center and to the library as place.
Nominations for all ILA Awards are due May 15, 2012. Nominating someone for an ILA Award has never been easier!

The Future of the Library?
Wednesday, April 25, 2012 | What will libraries look like in 2050? Who will be using them? Join four library experts as they explore how different types of libraries are growing, evolving, and remaining true to their missions. Through each talk you will have a chance to explore a particular type of library venture from web-based portals to immigrant outreach. How do different audiences use libraries? How have librarians and libraries adapted their practices to serve new populations and needs? How are libraries working together to make information more accessible?
Explore these questions and more with
- Carolyn Anthony, Director of the Skokie Public Library, which serves one of the area's most diverse populations;
- Mary Case, University of Illinois at Chicago University Librarian, who directs the Chicago Collections Consortium's Chicago Portal Planning project;
- Judith McBrien, who is currently developing a new documentary project entitled, Do Public Libraries Still Matter in the Digital Age?;
- and Julie Piacentine, Reference Librarian at the University of Chicago, who will examine the role of the reference librarian in the age of an increasingly complex information landscape.
Presented by the University of Chicago Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies in partnership with Know Your Chicago Gleacher Center, 450 N. Cityfront Plaza Drive Tuition: $115 To Register Online, please click here.
