Delivery Study Meetings
  Future for Illinois Library Cooperation
A series of workings meetings were held March 5-7 at three
locations

throughout the state to solicit input and comment on the draft report currently available on the ILA website.  The report's main author, Lori Ayre of the Galecia Group, elaborated on her findings and clarified that the report's intent was to provide information and assistance and was not a "report card" on current services.

The meetings in Burr Ridge, Decatur, and Chicago were attended by a range of delivery and administrative staff, system board members, and representatives from the Illinois State Library and the Illinois Library Delivery Service.  Both RAILS and IHLS have recently added delivery coordinators to their staffs and are already beginning to implement many of the report's suggestions.

These meetings were a productive part of this year-long process and will be incorporated into the final version of the report, due out in late March or early April.

Grants for "Mad Scientists"

The Chicago section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) recently announced the first recipients of the IEEE Science Kits for Public Libraries grants.  The following Illinois libraries were among the twenty-six libraries in the Midwest selected:  Crystal Lake Public Library, DeKalb Public Library, Frankfort Public Library District, Mahomet Public Library, and Moline Public Library.

An initial pilot project at the Mount Prospect Public Library enabled students to conduct experiments at the library with the guidance of a librarian, and allowed them to check out science kits, books, and videos.  Watch MPPL's Mad Scientist Club on YouTube and see the kits in action
