Governor Quinn Signs Both of ILA's Initiatives
House Bill 177 is now Public Act 97-100 and
House Bill 179 is now Public Act 97-101
House Bill 177 was an initiative of the Chicago Public Library that amended the local records act to allow disposal of all paper registration records once the information is digitally entered and verified.

House Bill 179 would allow public libraries to file Illinois Pubic Library Annual Report (ILPAR) reports 60 days after the end of the fiscal year, rather than 30 days; would clarify the formula for reimbursing library districts in residential Tax Increment Finance districts; and allow greater flexibility for library districts, public libraries, and library systems to secure insurance in lieu of a personal bond on their treasurer.

Got a idea for a new ILA Legislative Initiative in the upcoming session?  Share your idea with the new ILA Public Policy Committee chair Kathy Berggren.
Library Journal Selects Poplar Creek as Number One Landmark Library

This new Library Journal award honors ten libraries (and ten honorable mentions) that show what libraries can be for the future, with insight into trends and the use of technology.  The award's purpose is to help librarians discover relatively unknown gems that raise the bar as they respond to trends in green design and shifts in service models.  Check out these New Landmark Libraries and congratulations to Poplar Creek.

Honor Our Local Authors at the Illinois Authors' Dinner!

The Illinois Authors' Dinner is a great way to honor our local authors.  Libraries are encouraged to host an author at the event, which will be held on Tuesday, October 18, at the InterContinental Hotel in Rosemont.  Authors will receive a complimentary one-day conference registration on Tuesday, October 18, be recognized in the dinner program, featured on the Illinois Authors' Dinner Web site, and introduced at the event.  Each author will host a table during dinner, and their books will be offered for sale and book signing during the cocktail hour.

Michael Cunningham, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Hours, will be the featured speaker at this year's dinner.

For more information on hosting an author, visit the Illinois Authors' Dinner Web site.
