ILA Career Clinic Free resume review available at
Annual Conference
Looking for a job or
polishing your resume? This year's ILA Annual Conference will include a
resume review clinic. The Career Clinic will be located in the Exhibit
Hall on September 29 and 30. Candidates will receive free advice on how
they can improve their resumes from librarians who have experience with the
hiring process. Each session will be 25 minutes long.
Those who are not attending the Annual Conference, but wish to participate in
the Career Clinic can obtain a complimentary exhibits pass at the ILA
Registration Desk at Navy Pier. Exhibits will be open Wednesday, September
29, from 12:30 to 7:00 p.m., and Thursday, September 30, from 10:00 a.m. to
2:00 p.m. Please note the exhibits will not be open on Tuesday, September
28.

Celebrate the Freedom to Read at the Banned Books Week Read-Out
| The American
Library Association will kick-off Banned Books Week, a time when the nation
celebrates the freedom to read, with a "Read-Out!" event in Chicago, from Noon
- 2:00 p.m. at the historic Bughouse Square (Washington Square Park, 901 N Clark
St.), across from the Newberry Library, on Saturday, Sept. 25.

Participating authors will sign free copies of their latest works at 2:00 p.m.,
and literary exhibitors will showcase books and comics. The event is free and
open to the public.
Attendees include
the most frequently challenged author of 2009, Lauren Myracle (ttyl
series); best-selling author Chris Crutcher (The
Sledding Hill); Rick Kogan, WGN
Sunday Papers; and Elizabeth Taylor, book editor, Chicago Tribune. All
participants will read from select titles from the American Library
Association's (ALA) "Top Ten List of Frequently challenged books."
The "Read Out!" is
sponsored by the American Library Association's (ALA) Office for Intellectual
Freedom, the McCormick Foundation Civics Program and the Newberry
