Wait, Wait...It's Time to Take Your Favorite Local Author to Dinner
|
Illinois Authors'
Cocktail Hour and Dinner
Tuesday,
September 28
5:00
- 8:00 p.m. ILA is
delighted to welcome Peter Sagal, host of National Public Radio's "Wait,
Wait...Don't Tell Me" to this year's celebration of Illinois authors. His presentation, "Why Satire is the Only Reasonable Response to the Times in
Which We Live" will inaugurate the transformation of the Illinois Authors'
Luncheon into an elegant cocktail hour and dinner, held in the stunning Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier. "Wait, Wait...Don't
Tell Me" is heard by more than three million people every week, broadcast on
450 public radio stations nationwide and via a popular podcast. The show
celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2008 and received the prestigious Peabody Award. The
hour-long program has captivated news junkies across the country with its
lighthearted approach to current events, and has become the biggest and most
beloved weekend radio phenomenon since "A Prairie Home Companion." Sagal's first book, The
Book of Vice: Very Naughty Things (and How to Do Them) is a series of comic
essays about people who misbehave, why they misbehave, and why they're not
necessarily having more fun than you are. A radio host, author, humorist, and
commentator on current events with a remarkably eclectic career and an
inquiring mind, Sagal lives in Chicago, with his wife and three daughters. A book signing will
follow Peter Sagal's presentation. Honor your Local Authors at the
ILA Annual Conference The Illinois Authors' Dinner is a
great way to honor our local authors. Libraries are encouraged to sponsor an author at the event. Authors will receive a complimentary one-day
conference registration on Tuesday, September 28, be recognized in the dinner
program, and asked to introduce themselves during the event.
For more information on sponsoring an author, visit the ILA Web site.
