National Library Week is April 11-17
|
The American Library Association has prepared a toolkit with press releases, PSA messages, Web site buttons, and activity suggestions. Please use this opportunity to share how "Communities Thrive @ your library." PSA messages are easy to download and it a takes just a few minutes to add local information to the press release template. Check with your local radio stations and media outlets to see how they prefer delivery.
Check out National Library Week suggestions and build awareness for all that your library has to offer.

Future of Illinois Library Cooperation: April Update
|
Three task forces on Services, Structure, and Funding began contacting members in March and plan to start meeting in April. Task force co-chairs have proposed a working list of "core services" that address delivery of both physical and digital information, advocacy, as well as library and professional development. These are all areas of some cooperative activity at present, and task forces will examine the current situation, future needs, and the most economic means of continuing to provide critical services. We anticipate the task forces will continue to refine the concept of "core services" as they do their work.
The next scheduled report from the task forces will be to the ILA Executive Board at its June or July meeting. For additional background information, see the ILA Web site.

OCLC's How Libraries Stack Up: 2010
|
The OCLC information may be useful to librarians
as they develop budget
proposals or discuss the value of library services with their elected officials on Friday, 16 April in-district visits. Two versions of the report are available for download;
one in color and one optimized for black-and-white printing.
The report includes statistics such as: - U.S. public libraries circulate as many materials every day as FedEx ships packages worldwide.
- Every year, Americans visit the library more often than we go to the movies and six times more often than we attend live sporting events (includes professional and NCAA football, baseball, basketball and hockey).
- More public libraries offer free meeting rooms than there are conference centers, convention facilities and auditoriums combined.
