Wednesday, 10 February 2010 A Snapshot of a Day in the Life of Your Library
|
Join Illinois libraries and participate in "Snapshot of a Day" by
collecting statistics, comments, and photographs from the day to
provide indisputable proof that libraries consistently provide
invaluable services to our community.
Illinois libraries are being requested to collect statistics in eight areas:
- Customer Visits/Door Count
- Internet/Public Computer
- Number of Reference Questions
- Children Participating in Programs
- Adults Participating in Programs
- Circulation Total for the Day
- Date Base Usage
- Web Page Hits
Click here to download the form. Eventually, libraries are being requested to record these statistics at the following link. In an upcoming ILA E-News, we will provide information on how to capture and share the comments and photos.
For assistance in organizing your Snapshot Day, please contact Denise Zielinski at the DuPage Library System.

- Use the quotes and comments that you collect in your annual report.
- Feature your participation and your customers in your next newsletter.
- Share your results with your board.
- Share the result on your Web site and link to the Flickr photo group.
- Make a slideshow of the Flickr photos and run it in the library near the check out desk.
- Make bold signs with your customer comments and display them throughout the library.
- Take your results, your handout when you visit schools, senior centers, community agencies, and any kind of outreach.
- Customize the model handout (add your own stats, logo, etc.)
- Welcome new library card holders with your custom handout.
- Send an e-mail blast to your customer list or community contacts featuring customer quotes.
- Let your Friends group know about your participation in Snapshot.

- Ask your local cable station if they can use the statistics, the comments, the slideshow.
- Ask your local newspaper to run a photo and caption. Provide the
customer's name and phone number if you have permission so they can
contact them for an interview.
- Design a poster in color and print several copies "in house."
- Print even more copies and share them with your customers.
- Have Fun. Everything might not work perfectly, but try this national experiment in telling our stories to our elected officials and the general public.
