Summit on the Future of Illinois Library Cooperation
|
More than seventy representatives from the
Illinois library community -- along with the infamous eight-hundred-pound
gorilla -- came together at Allerton Park and Retreat Center in Monticello on
Monday, November 9, 2009. Led by
facilitator Maureen Sullivan, the purpose of the gathering was to discuss the
future prospects for cooperation among all types of libraries in Illinois.

OCLC Americas Regional Council to hold its first meeting at ALA Midwinter, January 15, 2010, 8:30 - 11:30 am, ET.
Plan now to join the first meeting of the OCLC Americas Regional Council, which will be held on Friday, January 15, 2010, 8:30 - 11:30 am (ET), in conjunction with the American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.
The meeting location, agenda and online registration details will be announced in the next few weeks. (If you will be unable to attend in-person, please watch for details on how you can view portions of the meeting that will be broadcast live on the Web.)
The Americas Regional Council meeting will provide an open forum to discuss issues of importance to its members and to advise OCLC about its products, services, policies and operating direction. The Americas Regional Council Executive Committee, members of OCLC Board of Trustees, Global Council and OCLC Management will be present for interactive discussions. Bring your ideas and be ready to participate.

Dominican University's Library and Information Science PhD Program
|
The new PhD program in Library and Information Science at Dominican University is calling for applicants who would like to receive early consideration for admission in fall semester, 2010. After successfully recruiting its first cohort of PhD students in this (its inaugural) year, the Graduate School of Library and Information Science has decided to start another cohort next fall. Designed to meet the needs of working professionals, Dominican's program allows students to earn a PhD in Library and Information Science in 3 years. Classes are face-to-face and meet weekends only at the River Forest, Illinois campus. Those who would like to be considered for the program in advance of the June 2010 deadline are encouraged to apply by December 18, 2009. For more information, please contact Tonyia J.
