Need Some More Program Ideas for Your Summer Reading Program?  Our Friends in Australia Are Helping.
For the second year in a row, the ILA iREAD summer reading program is being used throughout the country of Australia.  The Australian Library and Information Association reports, "Get in the game READ! Summer Reading Club Program was a great success.  From the feedback received from those libraries who participated, 93% said that the theme and logos appealed to their library's participants and 98% said that they would participate again in the program!  That is great news, so a big thank you to the iREAD team for your great theme and logos!

"The planning for our READ on the WILD SIDE! program is underway with librarians already starting to post ideas to our Summer Reading Club wiki." If you are looking for possible ideas to use for your program, you might want to check out these program ideas from "Down Under."
ILA in Peoria!
The 2009 Illinois Library Association Annual Conference returns to Peoria, with something for everyone.  The ILA Annual Conference is the best place in Illinois to develop professionally, advance your career, connect with colleagues, and learn about new techniques and new products that improve library services for your community.  This year's conference offers more than 70 programs and will feature more than 125 companies exhibiting their new products and services.

This year's conference is also easy on your budget.  We've held the line on registration fees, and lower expenses in Peoria allow us to reduce the cost of conference events.

The preliminary conference program is now available on the ILA Web site.  It will also be included with the June issue of the ILA Reporter.  The Early Bird registration deadline is August 10.

ILA is excited to welcome an array of speakers: tech guru Omar Wasow; resident philosopher Al Gini; celebrated comic book artist and author Jill Thompson; Tom Galante, Director of the Queens (N.Y.) Borough Public Library System; and one of the country's most famous librarians - Vicki Myron, author of Dewey:  the Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World.

On Wednesday, October 7, will feature the third-annual Illinois Library Book Cart Drill Team Competition and a brand new event - Book Savvy.  Work in a library...surrounded by books...with little time to read?  Do you need a book "stimulus"?  Book Savvy presents the hottest new adult titles (fiction and nonfiction) for your reading pleasure.  Discover and purchase new titles for yourself, your library, or as gifts.

Last year was so much fun, we had to do it again!  Due to member demand, the conference also features Fashionably Green:  Style from the Stacks II on Thursday, October 8.  It's time to start working on your library-inspired design!  The entry form is on the ILA Web site.
