Shovel-Ready Construction/Renovation Projects Data Collection Will Close Monday, 9 February
Three weeks ago (see January 13 ILA E-newsletter) ILA requested your help in collecting information on "shovel-ready" library construction/renovation projects.  More than two hundred libraries responded.  (Please click here of the list of libraries that have already completed the survey.)

ILA will soon be presenting this information to federal officials (Illinois Senators and and Representatives in the U.S. Congress) and to state officials (Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, and Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Director Jack Lavin) for consideration.  It is not too late to submit this information.  Please complete the short survey so we can be prepared should funds be available through a federal or state economic stimulus package.
Consumer Product Safety Commission Announces One-Year Stay on Implementation of Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released an announcement to the Federal Register staying implementation of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) until February 10, 2010.

Libraries now have a little room to breathe, but this announcement is not an end to this problem. Since we know children's books are safe, libraries are still asking to be exempt from regulation under this law.
ILA Committee Appointments
Each spring the Illinois Library Association (ILA) president-elect is charged with making committee appointments for the following year's work.   Carole Medal would appreciate nominations and/or self-initiated expressions of interest for seats on the following ILA committees:

Advocacy Committee
Awards Committee
Best Practices Committee
Cultural and Racial Diversity Committee
Fundraising Committee
ILA Reporter Advisory Committee
Intellectual Freedom Committee
IREAD Committee
Marketing Committee
Membership Committee
Nominating Committee and
Public Policy Committee

Please share your thoughts with Carol Medal at cmedal@gailborden.info at your earliest convenience, at least by April 6.  Thanks very much.
