Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Publishes FY 2006 Public Libraries Survey Report

Here are some reported statistics for Illinois:
Illinois is the fifth most populous state; Illinois ranks third in local operating revenue per capita; Illinois ranks third in total collection expenditures per capita; Illinois ranks fourth in reference transactions per capita; Illinois ranks fourth in total operating revenue per capita; Illinois ranks fifth in salaries and wages expenditures per capita; Illinois ranks sixth in interlibrary loans received per 1,000 population; Illinois ranks sixth in total paid FTE staff per 25,000 population; Illinois ranks sixth in audio materials per 1,000 population; Illinois ranks seventh in video materials per 1,000 population; Illinois ranks ninth in public-use Internet computers per 5,000 population; Illinois ranks eleventh in state operating revenue per capita; Illinois ranks fourteenth in paid FTE librarians per 25,000 population; Illinois ranks sixteenth in print materials per capita; Illinois ranks seventeenth in circulation transactions per capita; and Illinois ranks eighteenth in library visits per capita.

Illinois Trustee Forum 2009 Workshop Saturday, February 28, 2009

Join the ILA Library Trustee Forum for its annual workshop, designed specifically for library trustees.
Michael Stephens of the Dominican University Graduate School of Library and Information Science will discuss "The Hyperlinked Library: Trends, Tools, and Transparency." Michael is the author of the Tame the Web blog, and a contributor to ALA's TechSource blog. He will offer insights for planning and projects, and explain the hot technologies libraries are grappling with today. Don't know much about new technology? This is the workshop for you!
The afternoon will feature ILA Legislative Consultant Kip Kolkmeier and Attorney Phil Lenzini. Kip and Phil will provide an update on what's going on in Springfield and answer all your legal and legislative questions.

Doris Kearns Goodwin Speaks at Special Celebration of the Lincoln Bicentennial

lecture on "Lincoln and Leadership" by award-winning and best-selling
author, Doris Kearns Goodwin (Team of Rivals). Ms. Goodwin's presentation will be offered the night before Lincoln's 200th birthday, Wednesday, February 11, 2009 in the Mundelein Auditoriumon Lake Shore Campus at 7 pm.

| 2009 ILA Annual Conference Proposal Due Monday, 12 January 2009

The ILA Conference Program Committee is accepting program proposals for the 2009 ILA Annual Conference, which will be held in Peoria, October 6-9. The proposal form is available online and in the 2009 ILA Handbook of Organization (pages 56-59).
The conference theme is "Transformation: See Tomorrow Today." Preference will be given to proposals
that align with the program theme. If you've created a new service, incorporated new ideas into your
department or library, changed the way you are doing
things or transformed facilities, staff, training, boards, websites
or attitudes, please consider sharing your experience with your colleagues. |
