Phone Bank Volunteers Needed  
The Redwood City School District, with support from the RCEF is conducting a phone survey on public schools. This is part of a larger parcel tax feasibility study. Volunteers will have a list of people to contact and a script to follow. There will also be light refreshments. All calling will take place at Prudential California Realty at 3201 Jefferson Ave. It will be easy and fun, and this will help our  Redwood City  schools!  Please contact Alisa MacAvoy at alisamacavoy@yahoo.com with questions or to sign up.  Thank you!

HOLIDAY GALA RAISES OVER $8,000
The Joy to the World holiday gala raised $8,646, including gifts made at the event, all of which is donated to the RCEF. We thank the audience members who so generously supported us and the event sponsors: the Peninsula Covenant Church, Downtown Business Group, and the City of Redwood City.
RCEF STUDENT ESSAY CONTEST
The RCEF is sponsoring a student essay contest in partnership with the Redwood City Civic Cultural Commission. The theme this year is: "Invest in Me: I am Your Future" (What I want to be when I grow up...) The deadline for submissions is Thursday, February 5, 2009.
 
The essay contest is open to all students in the Redwood City School District. Every participating K through 3rd grade student receives a $10 gift certificate towards a Redwood City Parks and Recreation class. 4th through 8th graders compete for savings bond prizes.
 
Selected essays and art work will be featured at the Benefit for a Brighter Future 2009 and will be published in a book. More>>

OTHER NEWS
Nominated by the RCEF, the Pacific Athletic Club will receive the Chamber of Commerce's Golden Apple Awards this year for its commitment to local education. The Club was chosen for its $7,000 contribution to the RCEF from the proceeds of their "The Palms" event. Also receiving an award is the Hayes Group, nominated by Naomi Hunter and Ray Dawley of the Redwood City School District.
 
Senator Joe Simitian invites parents and community members to an Educational Update meeting on January 24, 2009 from 10 am to noon in the Palo Alto Unified School District Board Room, 25 Churchill Ave, Palo Alto. More >>
