| "Did I Remember?"
OH NO! |
 |
|
Did you remember to remove your hose from the outside faucet before freezing? The damage may be done already, but make sure you disconnect your outside hoses from the faucet head (spigot, silcock, spout, etc.) if you have not already. Mark this on your calendar for next year! Hoses left on will freeze your pipes or break your outside faucet!

| BIO-CLEAN |
 |
|
Bio-Clean is a special combination of natural bacteria and enzymes that DIGESTS dead organic waste (yuck!) found in your plumbing system: grease, hair, soap scum, food particles, paper and cotton. Bio-Clean is safe for people, plumbing and the environment. Many customers use Bio-Clean as a preventative measure.

| Economy Times = Shower Times |
 |
|
Need another way to help save on your water bill? Take short showers and save baths for specials occasions. Replacing baths with showers: Savings of 2 to 5 gallons PER minute! The average tub holds 42 gallons filled right up to the top. Since most of us don't fill it this high, let's go with 38 gallons for good measure. A shower head has an average output of 2.5 gallons per minute. The average shower is 8 minutes! (check yourself here- shower sharks you know who you are)
Bath: 38 gallons VS. 20 gallons for a shower! If you have an larger than average tub or whirlpool, the volume can easily triple in water usage versus a shower! Tiger Team Says: Take a shower to save money! |

| Happy Holidays to Everyone!
Christmas and the New Year Season means family and friends celebrating, eating, and spreading cheer... right? From a plumbers viewpoint, it can also mean frozen pipes, broken down garbage disposals (I know I can get one more turkey bone in there) and cracked outside faucets (Did I leave the hose attached again?).
This month's Tiger Talk will give you tips on how not to freeze & be one up on Jack Frost! Also learn what to do if you do freeze. Plus, read about the hazards of plumbing discounts that are out there! See our Holiday promotions and read some fun plumbing trivia!
Wishing your family the warmest blessings and great memories this holiday season!
Happy Holidays!

| Stop the Grinch!
Don't let frozen pipes ruin the Christmas Spirit! News You Can Use from
Tiger Plumbing's Owner:
Ross Kozora

Licensed Journeyman Plumber

Past Teacher of NWI PHCC Plumbing School
Hello! I would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday and a Prosperous New Year! Winter is now upon us! If your pipes have frozen in the past, they will again. Now is the time to protect them. The biggest problem with frozen pipes is the cold wind. Under the right conditions, the wind will blow through cracks in the foundations, windows, doors and walls directly on the pipe and freeze or worse...burst them. Seal up those cracks with insulation or caulk.
Most of the time we don't get many "freeze ups" unless the wind is blowing. If you have a faucet that is prone to freezing, open the cabinet doors to let the warm air into the cabinet (this is a simple preventative solution to many broken pipes that are seen). You can also let the water run a small stream (about the size of a pencil lead). Water will not freeze if it is moving.
What to do if a faucet pipe is frozen? Get heat to it immediately. *DO NOT use a torch or open flame- the wood or insulation is very dry and very flammable. Use ONLY a hairdryer or electric tape (usually put on before it freezes), or heat gun.
WHEN A FROZEN PIPE BURSTS
Use Caution! When a pipe is frozen it will expand and break. KNOW where your MAIN SHUT-OFF is located in the house so that you can shut the water off if a break occurs. Do Not leave the house unattended if the pipes are frozen. When they thaw and break, your home could flood. (We have seen many people enjoy that tropical get-a-way to come back to flooded re-al-ity). So, before you think "Tropical" think "Main Shut Off"! For extended times away, turn your main water off. Show everyone in the house where the main water shut off is located and how to shut it off. All of these tips should help you protect your home this winter!
Merry Christmas! Ross |
"What Smells?"
That could be a tricky question in our line of business! But, we are talking Garbage Disposals here people.
Thanksgiving has passed, Christmas is coming and between those two holidays is a whole lot of extra stuff going down those disposals. From Aunt Millie's mashed potatoes to dumping fancy mocha lattes, all of the germs and different smells can add up! Freshen the blades by putting ice down the disposal. That helps break up the grime while it helps to sharpen the blades. Next, thrown in lemon pieces and orange slices, to help freshen it.
