PGA TOUR Destination: Puerto Rico Open presented by Banco Popular
The Puerto Rico Open presented by Banco Popular is held on March 8 - 14, 2010 in beautiful and tropical San Juan, Puerto Rico on the Trump International Golf Club.
Trump International is a good layout with the majority of the holes
presenting a challenge either off the tee or on the approach shot to
some very undulating greens. The weather is tropical with windy to very
windy conditions. The wind in San Juan is the major factor contributing
to the outcome of each shot. The standard wind blows 15 mph minimum
and it can blow much harder. There is always a one-club variance,
which means that if a shot is into the wind there is one club more and
on downwind shots there is one club less than usual, and often times
two or three clubs more are needed going into the wind. Downwind is
just as tough as upwind because the ball won't usually stop on the
dried out greens. All of this considered, whoever wins the Puerto Rico
Open...

Golf Green Tip of the Month Check out this green golf project! Golfpreserves'® purpose is to "create a self-sustaining funding mechanism for the environmental stewardship of golf course facilities." "Through the processes of photosynthesis and plant growth, the turfgrass at golf courses has been removing carbon dioxide from the air and trapping it in the subterranean root structures of the grass at a yearly significant rate. Until now, that sequestered carbon asset could not be mobilized to be used in a meaningful and productive way. Golfpreserves® proposes to help familiarize the golf industry with this asset and then implement a plan to bring it to beneficial use." Golfpreserves® has begun the Colorado Golf Carbon Project, a research and development project to study how this carbon can be used to "create marketable offsets as a self-sustaining funding mechanism for this and future projects to improve conservation and environmental stewardship at Colorado's golf facilities." If this project is a success, awareness will be spread beyond Colorado to golf courses nationwide. To learn more about this project, visit Golfpreserves® website. |

Passing of PGA TOUR Caddie Greg Rita
Our friend Greg Rita passed away after a long battle with
brain cancer. Greg was an outstanding individual who exemplified class in all
areas of his life. One of the highest regarded caddies to ever pick up a golf
bag, Greg was on the PGA TOUR for nearly 30 years and had great success with
many of the game's elite players. His career is well documented and he will be
remembered as one of the all time great caddies. Greg was a friend to many and
a solid family person who relished any opportunity to spend time with his wife
Kelly and their son Nick. Our deepest condolences
go out to his family and friends. In memory of Greg we are republishing his interview from June of 2009.

Know Yardages with each Golf Club By: J.L. Lewis, PGA TOUR Golfer
To become a better golfer it is essential to consistently strike shots
that travel exact distances. There are several variables involved in
this process including: golf equipment, golf swing techniques, different playing conditions, adrenaline under pressure, and knowing your capabilities on each day.
Be Fitted with the Proper Golf Equipment
Starting with golf equipment, the most important component is the golf ball. Having the correct launch and spin
will greatly increase your chances of consistent shot making. Go to a
local club fitting center to measure launch and spin to determine the
best ball for you. Next, be sure to determine the proper length clubs with the correct shaft, golf grip size, loft and lie of the club head, and club head type
that matches your ability level. The higher handicap player will need a
more forgiving club head than a lower handicap player. All of these
components can be determined at the fitting center and perfected by
trial and error on the course. If you have the correct golf equipment, only small adjustments are needed to realize your ball striking potential.
