Featured Golf Tip
Fundamentals Tip:
"Have
an instructor check the basics of grip, ball position, posture, alignment, and
swing mechanics at least once a month.
Swing faults can be corrected by checking basic fundamentals."

Importance of Quality Golf Instruction By: J.L. Lewis
The ultimate goal of any player is to shoot
their best score. One way to help them do this is to be able to fix their own
golf swing while on the course during competition. The difficulty with
attempting to fix one's own golf swing is that often times it takes a well
trained professional with the correct information and experience to accurately
diagnose and deliver the necessary remedy for each golfer's swing. Rather than
use the trial and error method to fix one's own swing, the best way to obtain
self-sufficiency is to work with a qualified instructor to learn your golf
swing.

Golf Green Tip of the Month
Golf courses are beautiful works of art. Such beauty and precision requires a lot of resources and upkeep. Golf courses need a tremendous amount of water to stay green year round, as well as pesticides and herbicides to keep the grass in top condition. Some golf courses are working on being more " sustainable," or operating more in harmony with their natural surroundings. One example of such a course is Vineyard Golf Club, in Martha's Vineyard, Maryland, which was planted without any chemical fertilizers or pesticides. The Tournament Players Club in Dearborn, Michigan conserves water by
using daily measurements to see if the course needs watering or if it's
ok to just be left alone. Also, Oitavos Dunes, Cascais in Portugal which has achieved the Gold Audobon Signature Sanctuary award, incorporates the natural surroundings rather than bulldozing them a way. They even utilize the sand dunes!

PGA TOUR Destinations: BMW Championship
The BMW Championship, held at Cog Hill Golf Club in Chicago, a public facility on the west side of town, is played on September 10th through the 13th of this year. It is the last Fed Ex Cup event prior to the TOUR Championship. The tournament is well attended and the course is a good layout with large trees. The wind always blows in Chicago (i.e. "The Windy City") and presents problems due to the narrow landing areas on tee shots as well as approach shots. The course is hilly with thick rough. The scores at the BMW Championship usually need to be about four under par a day to have a chance of winning.

Golf Tips from the Tour sprang forth from a birthday inspiration for our son, Cole. I felt that the best gift I could give Cole to help him attain his dream of becoming a PGA TOUR Player was the gift of the knowledge and experience that led to my success on the PGA TOUR. I believe that people learn most effectively through trial and error on their own efforts. With that being said, understanding of anything can be assisted in a positive way with proper information at the appropriate time. Our son, Cole is an excellent example. He has liked golf for most of his life but was not enthusiastic about the game until just before attending college at Texas State University. That was six years ago and Cole has definitely come a long way with his golf game since then. During his first year in college he shot anywhere from 88 - 100, and he now shoots around par on a regular basis. Cole is an extremely long hitter and has had to work to gain control of his swing and ball flight. He is left eye dominant, which has presented some alignment challenges because left eye dominant golfers who play right handed have a tendency to line up to the right of the target. To correct his alignment... |
Golf Instruction Tip:
"Instruction
can be enhanced by knowing a students learning style. Ask questions to find out if the student is a
kinesthetic, auditory or visual learner and use appropriate techniques to
tailor instruction to their style of learning.
Golfers taking lessons should inform the instructor of their learning
style for increased understanding and results."

Video Clip: Teacher/Instructor Relationship
|
Teacher/Player RelationshipBy: J.L. LewisIn the game of golf the teacher/player relationship is more involved than most other sports for several reasons. From an early age most golfers has some form of instruction from a professional or a parent. Often times, young golfers will stay with the same instructor for many years like Jack Nicklaus with Jack Grout or Harvey Penick with Ben Crenshaw. Golfers will generally go through several instructors throughout their golf lives and settle on the one they feel most comfortable with, like I have with instructor Bill Moretti, at the Academy of Golf Dynamics.
|
Golf Instruction Tip:
" It
takes 21,000 repetitions for a golfer to groove the swing to make a swing
change. Be careful of instructors who
try to tear the swing down and rebuild it piece by piece. Find an instructor who can work with the
current swing and determine one key or thought that will create immediate
improvement."
