Tanner by Mittler Shocks Dominate Western Grands |
2009 marks the 10th year that Tanner by Mittler has been the leader in Quarter Midget shock technology. Through excellent chassis manufacturer support and customer feedback each generation of shock has provided a better, faster, and higher quality product. The new Platinum 4 series has once again provided a shock with faster lap times, easier customer repair and very simple valving changes. The use of carbon fiber shim technology, a new high flow ported piston and an all new hybrid shaft seal makes the Platinum 4 the most technologically advanced shock available to the Quarter Midget Industry.
The 2009 Western Grands Quarter Midget Nationals were held on June 28th-July 4th at the Langley QMA in British Columbia, Canada. As the action got underway, Tanner by Mittler Racing Shocks equipped cars were very fast from the outset setting Fast Time in 7 out of the 14 classes in qualifying with most of them New Track Records! As the racing progressed, the Tanner by Mittler Advantage was even more evident as 9 out of the 14 National Championship A-Mains were won by Tanner by Mittler equipped cars. 8 out of those 9 had the New Tanner by Mittler Platinum 4's! The QMA drivers now look forward to the 2009 Eastern Grands in Huntsville, AL on July 19th-25th. Kelly Tanner will be on hand that week to answer technical questions to help get you to the Winner's Circle! Click here for more info on Tanner by Mittler QM shocks, Springs, and Accessories. See you at the races!

TECH TIPS by Norm Campeau |

Shrinker/Stretcher Tips
One of the most important tools needed to shape metal and one of the last to be bought is a Shrinker and Stretcher. This should be THE FIRST piece of metal shaping equipment that you buy. This tool is invaluable in the repair of automotive dog legs, trunk lips, and rotted window lips.
For aircraft use, making contours and reverse curves, cowl lips, reinforcing pieces, and wheel pans are just a few of the many uses of a Shrinker or Stretcher. One of the most valuable places for the shrinker is on low crown panels such as automotive door skins and low crown aircraft belly skins. Before you start shaping on an English wheel to make the low crown, first go to the shrinker and lightly shrink all the way around the panel. This will stiffen the panel and when wheeling, the panel will take shape much easier. You can also add more shrinks where necessary to pull the panel in the direction needed.THIS TRICK IS AN AMAZING TIME SAVER!
A Standard Manual Shrinker Stretcher does have one awkward point however. The Shrinker jaws are on one side of the unit and the handle is on the back side. This is not a problem on small pieces but it can be on larger panels. MITTLER BROS. has a nice solution to this with their POWER SHRINKER/ STRETCHER.This unit works the handle with a high powered air piston and is controlled by a movable pedal. On large panels, this is a lifesaver and economically takes a manual shrinker/stretcher and makes it perform like much more expensive [thousands of dollars more] European machines, and this one is made in the USA!

Mittler Bros. Continues "Green" Initiatives |
Here at Mittler Bros. Machine & Tool, we are very proud of the efforts we have made to become environmentally friendly, not only as a company but also as a citizen of the communities that we live and work in. Through tremendous efforts by our employees, we have cut the size of our landfill dumpster in half through these efforts, with our ultimate goal to eliminate landfill waste completely. We recycle and reuse materials whenever possible. This includes all of our metal scrap and all paper products including cardboard. We have a state of the art system to recycle all of our painting supplies and we even recycle all of our wood skids and pallets. This is not new to us, as we instituted plastic and aluminum recycling in our breakroom at our previous facility. We have always been mindful of the future and of the consequences of excess landfill waste. Our environment is important to us as we are here for the long term.

A Few Things to Remember "It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the job it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot, it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better." John Ruskin, Author - Economist 1819-1900
The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of a cheap price is forgotten!
